MERCER COUNTY — Irresponsibility and drug addiction, not poverty, is the driving force behind most local crimes, according to District Judges Ron Antos, Dennis Songer and Brian Arthur, who spoke to a United Way committee searching for the best way to spend its donated dollars.

ohmygosh!! I can’t BELIEVE it!!! Is this REALLY true??

Or is it just more ‘right-wing extremist’ propaganda, ehh, lefties??

I’ll never for the life of me understand folks who think drugs are an acceptable ‘recreation’ activity. It’s counter-productive to the human situation here on planet earth.

Alcohol is a drug, as is caffeine and nicotine...

Quick!!! ban the crap out of all three!!!!!

Actually those are not bad drugs, highly addictive drugs are bad as when the people who get hooked on them go to any extreme to get more of them.

Maybe we need a return of the “opium dens” where a person can go stay a weekend and get high and then get dry before being released and each time they check into one they get processed in case they stole to get money to go to the opium den....

Would be better than paying the druggies welfare monies...

Or have a factory where they do menial tasks for three squares a cot and all the smack they can stand during their off hours...

Anything right now would be better than the corrupted system where law enforcement terrorizes law abiding citizens in the name of “public safety” while making mockery of our god given and constitutionally protected rights.

Bears repeating, loudly:

Anything right now would be better than the corrupted system where law enforcement terrorizes law abiding citizens in the name of “public safety” while making mockery of our god given and constitutionally protected rights.

And especially bears repeating to so-called 'conservatives' that continue to advocate for more jack-booted thuggery in the War On {some} Drugs.

Close. It's immoral screw ups that can't handle living in a free society that cause most local crime. It's like these idiots the win the lottery and end up blowing it all in a year. They were screw ups before they won the lottery.

The solution is not to reduce everyone's freedom but to exclude the screw ups from free society.

The Drug War has artificially raised the price of certain chemicals so that they are worth more than gold. There is so much profit that drug dealers have influence in every government in the world. Remember how much power criminals gained during alcohol prohibition and multiply that by at least 10,000. They have enough power to control the media, policy, EVERYTHING. Afghanistan was partially a war to secure opium supplies for the “right” people.

There is no way to stop such a demanded, profitable, easily made product short of 24/7 surveillance of everything. People even risk the death penalty because the profit is so mind boggling. Even prisons have no shortage of drugs because people will give anything for them.

The WOD basically turns addicts into an army of thieves for the cartels. They steal $10,000 from society to give $1,000 to a dealer for $10 worth of product. They don’t care about laws and risk their lives to get high. Then we spend trillions on enforcement and $50,000+ every year to put each of them in jail.

It would be cheaper for all of society to simply give the addicts all the chemicals they want along with 3 hots and a cot. Not only in terms of dollars, but also the priceless freedom/privacy we lost in this stupid WOD. Of course that will never happen since countless people make a good living by taking our money and our freedoms...

It’s the fact that we *reward* people for being screw-ups. We give them everything, then wonder why they don’t want to work.

You’re right. California’s Prop 19 to legalize marijuana was stopped by pot GROWERS. They are making billions off of medical MJ and didn’t want to competition.

Prohibition breeds thieves.

“Alcohol is a drug, as is caffeine and nicotine...”

This must be the stock Saul Alinsky debate point of the druggie crowd.

We do not celebrate drunks or drinking to excess any more/less than we celebrate deliberately taking a mind altering substance. It is not one or the other. Playing around with the human brain is beyond stupid.

I would however, wholeheartedly support elimination of the War On Drugs if for no other reason to let these maggots of society kill themselves off before they spread their cancer to our children.

Drugs fuel crime.

Even the liberal pro-dopers here at FR acknowledge this. And yet they continue to blather on that more drugs is the answer. They want to surrender in the WOD and legalize them.

DRUGS FUEL CRIME.

This is a no-brainer - NSS statement that no one disagrees with. Yet the losertarians want to decriminalize and tax drugs They complain the high cost of drugs is at fault. "It would be cheaper for all of society to simply give the addicts all the chemicals they want..."  even though they know that by increasing drug usage by millions of times will only INCREASE welfare dependency and crime rates.

DRUGS FUEL CRIME.

Yeah, but.....

“Drugs fuel crime” because prohibition turns chemicals that cost practically nothing into gold.

Prohibition ensures that the only suppliers of these chemicals are violent criminals who will fight each other for markets.

Prohibition basically gives criminals gold that grows on trees. Just a few examples:

-A cheap one room lab can be set up in a few days and will generate millions worth of product long before authorities are even aware.
-A smuggler can stuff $100,000 worth of product in their stomach.
-A single ultralight plane can bring millions of product every week.
-A tiny submarine can bring hundreds of millions of product in one trip.

Not only is the profit incredible but only a tiny percentage of drug transactions are intercepted. There is so much cash that runners make more in one trip than they would at a legit job all year.

Drug makers are continuously creating new legal designer drugs that are more dangerous than the outlawed ones. New formulas are ready before the DEA even notices.

I'm not “pro dope” but realize there is NO WAY to put a dent in such a lucrative hidden market without 24/7 surveillance of everyone. Even in nations with a death penalty, there is still no shortage of drugs due to the insane profits.

I'd rather have government give drugs away than live in a police surveillance state. They cost practically nothing to make and welfare is cheaper than prison. Not to mention all the thefts and violence that would disappear if the addicts got their cheap chemicals.

Of course that is never happening because people make trillions from this global Prohibition. Every major government has been infiltrated by the cartels because they literally have warehouses full of cash. Think of all the people that gained power from alcohol prohibition and multiply by at least 10,000. The profit made by smuggling a whole truck in the 1930s can be made today from one stomach.
