The nauseating combination of ignorance, self-righteousness, entitlement, and boorishness that characterizes campus politics today was on appalling display yesterday at Brown University, as a massive crowd of students prevented New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly from addressing the school. Kelly had come to Brown to talk about the New York Police Department's unmatched success in lowering New York's crime rate. The students, however, heckled him off the stage, shouting that Kelly had "institute[ed] systemic racism" in the city through the NYPD's contested stop, question, and frisk tactics.
The protesters of course take for granted that they can go about blithely squandering their parents' tuition money at Brown without fear of getting shot, robbed, or raped. Nor do they have to navigate through a gauntlet of drug dealers on their way to the store or while picking up their mail. Residents of New York City's poorest neighborhoods by contrast endured just such constant fear and disorder until the NYPD embraced proactive policing and other revolutionary reforms in the early 1990s, reforms which Kelly perfected. When every criminologist predicted that the NYPD's 1990s crime drop had bottomed out, Kelly drove crime down another 31%, in the process saving another 5000 minority lives.

Most of them probable union and political activist members. I’m sure they also got the students who always want their own moment in history to go along with their blank brains.
Yet, they continue to vote for them en mass.
Ahhh, to be young and stupid once again.....................NO THANKS!...............
Not only in Mass, but NY and California as well.................
If I were King I would locate a huge NYC felon halfway house on the Brown University campus.
“institute[ed] systemic racism”
I wonder if there is even one of them in the crowd that knows that the definition of racism is not, “When people have political views of any kind that differ with the extreme Left”
Leftists love crime. Prove me wrong.
pre-Rudy days soon.
I do not understand why universities tolerate students opening violating the civil rights of speakers.
Students who engage in this behavior should be immediately suspended.
You can not say you are exercising your 1st amendment rights as you deny those rights to others.
Its also qualifies as bullying.
Protest outside if they want but once they come in they should be expected to conduct themselves in a civilized manner.
I think the article is a bit too hard on the students.
If the students had heard what Kelly had to say, they might have had to reconsider what their professors had taught them. This would conflict with the mission of a university like Brown, which is to protect students from opinions that might challenge them or make them question their Faith.
That headline is blissfully misleading.
Unaware? Hardly! The hecklers at Brown (the location of the incident at Brown University might be the only fact asserted in the headline above which is true, although it is not clear that the hecklers actually attended Brown) were certainly not "blissful," they were arrogant, boisterous, intolerant and aggressive.
No, they were not blissful and I do not believe that they were "unaware" either. Put yourself in the shoes of these student activists, take off your clothes of conservatism and put on the garments of radicalism. Add a raffish bit of ambitiousness and you have a leftist activist ready to molt into an elected Democrat official.
If you are young activist on the make eager to start a political career do you resolve to go to the library and spend hours in the stacks studying Locke and Rousseau to understand theory of democracy or do you consider the paths to power of John Kerry or Barack Obama? Well, if you are possessed of the impatience which characterizes youth you opt for the radical path. You certainly do not join the Young Republicans.
John F Kerry lied his way into military medals and threw the medals over the White House fence to get himself into congressional hearings where he lied some more and accused his country of atrocities and murder. Result? He became a multi-term United States Senator and Secretary of State.
It is is unnecessary on these threads to rehearse the radical biography of Barack Obama, suffice it to say that a community organizer is a radical demagogue bent on destruction of the existing system, now known as "transformation."
If one can skillfully exploit race as deftly as did Obama in his career, one is well advanced on the path to power. It is not an accident that these students were complaining that the New York City Police Department in miraculously reducing crime was instead engaged in "institute[ING] systemic racism."
No, the headline is misleading it should read:
Those idiot ZERO Voters would LOVE IT.
They would blame the rapes on Bush.
Call Daddy for more $$ when they get robbed.
JMHO
Camp Bruno! (gotta wonder if Professor Carberry were there?)
One of most profound wishes is that all the white, snot-nosed lib college students and professors protesting tougher police law enforcement be forced to walk through a crime-ridden, inner city neighborhood with no protection. We’ll see what their opinions about “racist” police methods would be...if they managed to survive that is.
Many leftists firmly believe that all blacks/minorities in prisons are simply political prisoners. This goes back many decades to the sixties where a number of gullible, white leftists lost their lives believing their cherished myths about innocent blacks being railroaded by a racist system. It continues to this day.
......... be forced to walk through a crime-ridden, inner city neighborhood with no protection. “
Right on ! All of the libs in my life, and there are many, live in affluent suburbs of Boston.
All of them.
.
campus newspaper article
“More and more people see the hypocrisy and intolerance of the left.”
These are the future Presidents, senators and Reps, not to mention Deans of Law schools, universities, High school Principals etc. These Ivy league Reds are the leaders of tomorrow.
