Iraq veteran to challenge John Cornyn’s Senate seat
The Houston Chronicle ^ | November 2, 2013 | Nora Lindtner

Erick Wyatt, a 37-year-old veteran of the war in Iraq, is running for Sen. John Cornyn’s seat in the Republican primary in March 2014.

The young Veteran said he does not think Cornyn is doing a good job representing Texas, and the current Senator is “a moderate at best.”

Wyatt is currently the youngest challenger up for Cornyn’s seat, but believes his young age and lack of political background is an advantage because it gives him greater opportunity to relate to the working middle class and the younger generation.

Wyatt is a definite longshot. But if I lived in Texas, I'd vote for him.

I live in Dallas, Republic of Texas..

...I am definitely voting for Mr. Wyatt. Cornyn is running ads on TV touting his "conservative" creds. He had his chance w/ me..I didn't see him anywhere during Sen Cruzs' 22 hr "filibuster". Cornyn cannot take that back, or explain it...so yea for Mr Wyatt.

BTW...I heard yesterday a rumor that Rep Louie Gohmert may be running for Speaker...if true, this will be fun to watch, and if he wins, the whole ball game changes.

No one at any of Cornyn’s offices would answer the phones the morning of the filibuster, the day of the vote.
]I called Cruz’ office just to let them know that.

That is even less than not representing Texas.

We are already getting phone calls urging us to vote for Cornyn when the time comes.

I am going to have to think long and hard before I vote for Cornyn again. I don’t trust him after some of the shenanigans he pulled before the shutdown.

I looked up the publication referenced in The senator’s add, calling him the 2nd most conservative in the senate. It is an inside the beltway magazine. It is read by people inside government. How can you argue with that endorsement?

No one knew who Cruz was either. Everyone knew putz Dewhurst. The Tea Party spread Ted’s name around and word got out.

That’s what it’s all about.

A vote for Cornyn is a vote for McCain and Reid.

It's as simple as that!

I emailed Mr. Cornyn during the filibuster and said I was disappointed that he was there supporting Mr. Cruz. Here is his reply:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Continuing Resolution (CR) and defunding of Obamacare. I know how passionately Texans feel about this issue, and I appreciate the benefit of your comments. All Americans should be exempt from the onerous and costly provisions of Obamacare and the best way to do this is to repeal and defund the law in its entirety.

Texans continue to share with me real-life examples of how this law is hurting businesses, killing jobs, and burdening individuals with costlier premiums. All Americans should receive relief from this law, so I was pleased when the House of Representatives chose to listen to the American people and sent the Senate a CR that funded the government and defunded Obamacare.

Because of procedural rules in the Senate, the only way for Senators to vote yes or no on defunding Obamacare was to vote for cloture, thereby allowing a simple majority vote to defund Obamacare. Only five Senate Democrats were needed to defund Obamacare. However, Democrats continued to ignore the pleas of the American people and stripped the language that defunded Obamacare. I joined with all Republicans to vote against the final Senate CR that included funding for Obamacare.

House Republicans continued to send reasonable packages to the Senate that would have funded the government but provided relief for Americans from this law, including bills that would have delayed Obamacare for a year, permanently repealed the Medical Device Tax, delayed Obamacare’s individual mandate, and required that Congressional members and staff live under the same rules as the American people. Senate Democrats rejected these reasonable compromises.

On Tuesday, October 1, 2013, the U.S. government funding authority expired, resulting in a government shutdown. Unfortunately, this shutdown did not prevent the implementation of Obamacare and the health care exchanges opened as scheduled.

At every opportunity to defund or repeal the law, I have voted in favor of doing so, and I will not waver in my opposition to this law. To read further about my efforts, please visit my website at: http://www.cornyn.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=senator-cornyn-record-on-obamacare.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent Texas in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN

United States Senator

I will not vote for Cornyn. Wyatt looks good right now. My family’s 5 votes will go against the incumbent.

What his advantage will be is having Master Cruz mentor him. Getting up to speed should take about a month.

Protest vote yes but beat Cornyn? Come on. The best challenger won’t. That’s the problem.

Yep, this is the guy I heard on a radio show in Dallas a few weeks back and was trying to remember the name.

Sounded like clean, honest, straight talk to me.

Get the Tea Party out and defeat the RINO! Get military veterans to walk house to house in support of the Iraq vet and expose the RINO.

the only way for Senators to vote yes or no on defunding Obamacare was to vote for cloture

That is so deceptive and dishonest trying to make his vote for cloture look like it was a vote against Obamacare when it was the exact opposite. YOU VOTED WITH HARRY REID so you can stay buddies with your DC friends and not fight for Texans now getting insurance cancellations then it was next to impossible to get any of your staffers on the phone!

Senate rejects Ted Cruz strategy 79-19; cloture invoked, Obamacare funding restored
