One private employer in the top ten is pretty pathetic.

When my firm did the advertising for the Hiltons in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, the company that owned them was the largest locally headquartered company in the state, in terms of sales volume.

It was a sand & gravel company.

Business-wise, New Mexico is a small potatoes state.

I should note that list is based on total # of employees rather than some other measure (like total payroll).

Even so that’s a very telling stat.
Just like NoVa, everybody either works for the government or a govt contractor, or some other affiliation to govt.
