Calling America: Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello?
NY Times ^ | Thomas L. Friedman

-excerpt-

Whether we were feared or loved, America was always the outsized standard by which all others were compared. --

excerpt-

Well, today, to many people, we look like the definition of a drunken driver — like a lifelong mentor who has gone on a binge and is no longer predictable. And, as for defining the future, the country that showed the world how to pull together to put a man on the moon and defeat Nazism and Communism, today broadcasts a politics dominated by three phrases: “You can’t do that,” “It’s off the table” and “The president didn’t know.”

“Well, today, to many people, we look like the definition of a drunken driver..”

Should be:

“Well, today, to many people, Obama looks like the definition of a drunken driver..”

I always believed that Jimmy was sincere and incredibly inept.

I did too. I’m willing to cut Jimmuh aome slack. I firmly believe that only AFTER he left office, did he fully blossom into the Jew-hating Leftist we see today.

Friedman will be found hanging from the rafters of his garage soon.

Did you read the article?

And that is what bothers me most today. It’s not just that we can no longer pull together to put a man on the moon. It’s that we can’t even implement proven common-sense solutions that others have long mastered — some form of national health care, gun control, road pricing, a gasoline tax to escape our budget and carbon bind.

Friedman's liberalism is in his DNA.

On one hand Friedman is wistful about the American that defeated Communism. On the other hand, his panties are in a bunch because the Democratic process is occasionally messy. If he wants to see what a truly “unified” country can do, maybe he should spend some time in North Korea.

The truth is that Fiendman and his ilk would be perfectly fine if America WAS a communist country, as long as they were the Commissars.

He seems fond of the modernity of Singapore, but I bet he’s not fond of their strict attitudes toward welfare and personal responsibility.

More likely Bezos will get a call to ‘address concerns’ about Friedman.

I cannot think of a single government program that Tom Friedman wants to reduce or eliminate. Quite a contrast to the other Friedman (Milton).

Didn't THIS Friedman once write an article lamenting the fact that we aren't supposed to be living under a dictatorship or authoritarian government, like Red China?

yes he did. That was why my comments were directed at those who thought Tom Friedman’s article was anti-Obama.
No I don’t think so. Friedman is a statist pure and simple.
