As Bush Settles Into Dallas, Golf Tees and Family Time Now Trump Politics

DALLAS — When the executive director of former President George W. Bush’s public policy institute decided to move on recently, he stopped by for an exit interview. Mr. Bush asked if he had anything in particular he wanted to talk about.

Nothing specific, said James K. Glassman, the departing director.

“O.K.,” Mr. Bush replied, “I want to talk about painting.”

After early self-portraits in the shower and then dozens of paintings of dogs and cats, Mr. Bush, it seems, has now moved on to world leaders. He told Mr. Glassman that he wanted to produce portraits of 19 foreign presidents and prime ministers he worked with during his time in the White House.

Nearly five years after leaving office, the nation’s 43rd president lives a life of self-imposed exile in Texas, more interested in painting than politics, recovering from a heart scare, privately worried about the rise of the Tea Party, golfing with fervor, bicycling with wounded veterans and enjoying a modest revival in public opinion. While Bill Clinton criticizes Republicans on the campaign trail and Dick Cheney chastises the current administration on his book tour, Mr. Bush resolutely stays out of the public debate.

I remember two Border Patrol agents getting hung out to dry. I remember that he wouldn't stop terrorists crossing the border for fear that Laura might not get a new dog walker. And if he wants to stay out of politics, he can stay the heck away from Lindsey Graham's primary. It grates on me that Obama is a tyrant and we're being crushed under his heel, Benghazi, Fast and Furious...and the Bushes have to act all nicey nice and noblesse oblige about it. And then they want to promote one of the worst of the RINOs who wanted to get us in the middle of Syria.

Bah. A pox on their house. And their lazy butt women, too.

One reason that happens is because the Milquetoasts have the nomination sewn up by the time they get to the Texas Primary.

Texas should be the First Primary. We deserve a big say in who the nominee is, because we are the ONLY large state that guarantees electoral votes for the Republican candidate.

privately worried about the rise of the Tea Party,

And painting portraits of his fellow Ruling Class members. The Bushes are the ones who put us on this path to ruin.

I have no solution, I'm just venting.

And in just my opinion, I blame Huckabee for Thompson dropping out.

I don't care to revisit that whole mess, and I'm not trolling.

LOL.

A stupid "news" article:
This article is adapted in part from “Days of Fire: Bush and Cheney in the White House,” published last month by Doubleday.

I agree with you entirely; he was one of the worst of all Republican presidents, next to Harding, hands-down worst Republican president of the 20th century. I was never convinced that he was very intelligent, either. His actions and words since leaving office have done nothing to dispel my doubts.

Mr. Bush resolutely stays out of the public debate.

Well, unless he sees another chance to push amnesty for illegal aliens which now seems to have been the issue that meant more to him than any other.

He's broken his supposed silence several times to give another push for amnesty, and I expect we'll hear from him again when that issue is resurrected for the umpteenth time.

How did his tax cuts work out? Somewhat better than his TARP giveaway of trillions to Wall Street to cover THEIR failures.

Trillions, huh? So you don’t remember the size of your tax cut, and don’t remember the size of TARP1. Par for the course.

I thought it curious that they take up residence IN Dallas after they leave the White House.

What happened to the ranch?

Of course anything from the New York Slimes is suspect, but the fact that he donated to Lindsay Graham means he is not staying out of politics. He has chosen his side.

Of course he’s worried about the Tea Party......The rise of the Tea Party blocks their plans to impose a family dynasty.
