Holder: Trayvon charges still possible
The Hill's Regwatch ^ | November 4, 2013 | Ben Goad

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday said the Justice Department has not decided whether to file federal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman in the 2012 killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman, a volunteer neighborhood watchman who shot and killed Martin in an incident that captured national interest, was acquitted of murder charges in July. But the Justice Department could still pursue a federal civil rights case.

Holder said the agency’s investigation is under way.

“I'm not sure exactly how much longer that will take, but we will get to a point where we are able to make a determination,” he told reporters at an unrelated news conference at the agency’s headquarters.

Holder, during an April speech to Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, pledged to “take appropriate action” if the agency finds evidence of a potential federal civil rights crime in the Zimmerman case.

However, he has since cautioned that the Justice Department faces a “very high barrier” in pursuing federal criminal charges in such cases.

On Monday, he noted that the courts had already weighed in Zimmerman’s case.

"The case of George Zimmerman — and what happens there — I think a substantial part was resolved in the case that was tried," Holder said.

Double jeopardy ? Please

Bush senior started this crap when he had the Feds try the cops who were aquitted on the Rodney King trial for “Violating Kings civil rights”.

A different charge.

I understand that. In intent it still amounts to the same thing. It boils down to a political leader attempting to appease the masses for political purposes by punishing the alleged perpetrator when one method fails to do the trick. In King’s case, I agree; the officers did violate his civil rights. They used excessive force no doubt, however had King pulled over immediately when they first hit their lights it probably wouldn’t have happened. In Zimmerman’s case I don’t see any grounds for filing the charges (or tort violation). Its a completely different scenario.

What GZ needs to do is sue the family of the Martin as Martin was still a minor when he attempted to murder Zimmerman. They want to bust his balls and bring this to civil rights charges all because he had the audacity to defend his life? Then fine, sue them back for all the hell he’s gone through not to mention he almost losing his life when their gangsta son ambushed and attempted to kill him.

“Right, then, ehrmmm... I’m no trevvan martin supporter, but I am having some difficulty understanding what point you are attempting to make by continually posting the pic of (allegedly) martin holding a fake pistol. That he was a wannabe gangbanger and deserving of no sympathy is a given, but that he posts pics of a (fake) ‘semi-’ is hardly a reason to condemn someone....”

Did you leave “sarc” off at the end of your post? The picture of the “fake” pistol he posted had, in the background, a loaded magazine for the pistol. I suppose that was fake also?

If I knew how to post the “That’s Racism” icon, I would.

We both know that blacks always get special treatment, so following the rules is racist.

You’re right.

For the American people have a limit. And while at first there were open minds across the country as regards Zimmerman and Trayvon....the trial is done.

To charge that man again for a trumped up federal charge will infuriate the citizenry of this country.

Not going to happen. And the WORST Attorney General this country has ever had really needs to shut up.

Don’t view the question through a legal lens...view it through the lens of a radical leftist politician.

You may be able to leave without a passport, but you may not be able to enter another country without one. Since Zimmerman was born an American, there’s no guarantee that he could stay in Peru. I don’t know the laws, but Peru is Peru and not America.

From Wikipedia:

Those children born overseas to Peruvian mothers or fathers who were not registered before reaching 18 years of age can acquire Peruvian nationality by choice if:

Foreigners can also acquire Peruvian nationality, including:

Holder chooses his cases based on hatred of white people. In short, he’s a racist.

You don't need a passport to leave the US.Having left the country a number of times, including as recently as two months ago,I've never had to show a passport to a US government official on exiting.Just last September I crossed into Canada,by foot, and the only government official I encountered was a Canadian Immigration/Customs officer.

Federal laws regarding violations of certain people’s civil rights are kept on the books for the sole purpose of getting around double jeopardy when the federal government wishes to do so.

I hear what you’re saying but I’m looking at his record. I know a lot of things are supposed to be “by the book” but he keeps findng ways to circumvent them. Who would have ever thought Justice Roberts would have declared the Affordable Healthcare Act legal and a tax 5 years ago before it passed. Most didn’t but he found a way around that. I think removing Reid would definitely hinder his efforts at continuing his current mission to destroy the foundations of American society. Until you do that he will stay in power IMO.

I guess holder is talking about a federal civil rights violation. The federal government’s position would be that Zimmerman only defended himself from an attack because the attacker is black, therefore it is a civil rights case.

Maybe he should emigrate to a more free society...Russia, China, Cuba...somewhere offering less corruption and less of a Police State.

Or he can stay here in the USSA.
