Quick! Someone get in touch with the editor of Guns & Ammo magazine, Dick Metcalf, and let him know that "happily" as used in the early 17 century by William Shakespeare does not mean "happy" but "perhaps." And perhaps (happily) Mr. Metcalf won't make the same ridiculous error again when he completely misinterpreted the 18th century meaning of "Well regulated militia" in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to mean government regulations as a justification to call for gun control.
Bryan Preston of the PJ Tatler points out the blatantly obvious which went completely over Metcalf's head when he wrote a gun control column:

There is NO WAY the gov’t can do anything “well”, much less regulate the militia.
You might think that the editor of “guns and ammo” might be against gun control, but this is not necessarily true. His goal is to sell magazines, and he’s in reality a media person. Look at that moron Dumbo Zumbo who opened his mouth and stuck his foot in a couple of years ago. Gun writers aren’t necessarily for freedom, just for getting a big fat paycheck.
I predict he will be selling fewer magazines now.
One would hope.
I can’t help but notice that when there is black mob violence, there is no militia around to counter it. And often, the police don’t do much either. Much better to have armed citizens in the absence of a “well regulated” militia.
Well, I for one have never cared for the bald headed some-beach anyhow. Really a pompous ass. Funny thing, he is the main reason I stopped watching GUNS AND AMMO’s TV show(s). Like Juan Williams and Bob Beckel, when Dick Metcalf shows up I leave the channel. Or the room. Once again, Mother was right.
Metcalf is a lefty (left handed). Never trust a lefty. My ex-wife was one.
I suspect he’ll do for Guns and Ammo what John Meacham did for Newsweek.

Although I failed Latin in high school, I still remember “sinistra”. I think that is the way it is spelled.

Metcalf must be a subscriber to the “living document” whose meanings change with the culture. If the meanings change, why even bother to write them down and ratify them? Doesn’t that essentially mean that the Bill of Rights means nothing and you can just make up things as you go along?
Well, the individual militiamen brought their own weapons (they owned them). The state govt did not issue the weapons.
Had to look up his picture, once you posted the above. I agree, I like watching the show, can't stand that guy, though.
