Martinez for Vice President? Some say so

Some think they know what the 2016 Republican presidential ticket looks like.

It includes New Mexico governor Susana Martinez.

On Monday, Martinez made eight campaign stops with New Jersey governor, republican Chris Christie.

The appearances have some saying Martinez and Christie together could be a preview of 2016's republican presidential ticket.

Martinez and Christie are no new political team -- they've campaiged together before.

After Monday though, some say looking at these two together could be a preview of the 2016 Republican presidential ticket:

"We cross party lines, we debate, we keep our principles," said Martinez.

On the campaign trail with Christie, Martinez listed traits she says the two of them share, during an interview with NBC News.

"She has I think tread that sort of moderate conservative trail very carefully," said Lonna Atkeson, a political science professor at the University of New Mexico.

Atkeson says those traits, and all the national face time, is fueling predictions Martinez may end up on a presidential ticket.

"They would like to see more Hispanics, Latinos supporting the Republican ticket," said Atkeson.

Appealing to Latino voters is exactly what Christie and Martinez seemed to be doing on Monday.

"We have to embrace minorities and not just visit them before election time," said Martinez, on a stop in mostly Hispanic Union City.

Martinez opened up to NBC News about seeking out minority voters, and including them in solutions.

"What you do is you highlight a small state," said Atkeson.

Atkeson says Martinez out front on a big campaign like Christie's puts our state on stage..

"A small state like New Mexico benefits from national attention," said Atkeson.

But Atkeson says 2016 is far away.

"Her first priority absolutely has to be New Mexico, because she has an upcoming gubernatorial race," said Atkeson.

Martinez echoed that sentiment herself again on Monday.

"I'm committed to New Mexico, I have no thoughts about 2016 in reference to me," said Martinez.

But Atkeson says she wouldn't be surprised if that changes.

Maybe in a big way.

"She should be a viable presidential candidate as well, not just a viable vice presidential candidate," said Atkeson.

Being seen with Christie certainly started a lot of speculation about a possible ticket.

A headline from coverage of the pairs campaign last night reads: "... Our First Look At Chris Christie With The Woman He Might Pick For Vice President."

Martinez is up for re-election in 2014.

Moderates take us down the path to ruin, albeit at a slightly slower pace. No sale. At $18T in debt, a “moderate” isn’t good enough.

Oh, one more thing: The only fight you ever get out of a moderate is an attack against a conservative. Once the primaries are over, the wrists go limp. The Communist cretin never would have won the Presidency, much less re-election, if the GOP nominees had the balls to strip the bark off the b@stard. They are worthless.

>> No. I had read or heard that she supported “comprehensive ‘immigration’ reform”. Am I wrong? I hope so. <<

I would say so. Every article I've read on her describes her as a hardliner anti-illegal immigrant Governor, and the La Raza crowd is constantly calling her a "traitor to her race" and "xenophobic" because she is of Mexican ancestry but has constantly been fighting the state legislature and pushing for the repeal of driver's licenses for illegal aliens. They've been posting daily hate messages on her facebook page calling her a "bad Catholic" and other such nonsense. She's also criticized Rubio for supporting taking an "amnesty now and secure the border later" approach and said securing the border MUST be the no. #1 priority:

If she’s Christie’s friend, she’s no FRiend of mine. You can blow her horn until the cows come home—CINOSs can go pound sand. No Mas, amigo.

Why wouldn’t Martinez be President with Chris Christie as the Vice President? Way to many assumptions being made in this article.

For the record, I don’t care for either of them.

They ‘won’ the last two rounds in 2008 and 2012. How’d that work? This group is incapable of winning, and sabotage outsiders who don’t kowtow to K Street.

I would not vote for either one, for any office. I will never again vote for the Republican candidate simply to be voting against the Democrat. If I disapprove of both, I’ll vote for neither.

"Martinez is despised by New Mexico's leftists because she has been fight to REPEAL the state's benefits for illegal aliens."

Yep. My memory isn't what it once was, but I distinctly recall her opposing foreign invaders in NM. Yes, I do think people see the name and jump to conclusions...easy mistake to make...that's why it's important to read further.

Hannity played a clip yesterday of Christie, where he basically said the Tea Party was an obstruction to people who want to get things done. Well DUH a$$wipe...certain things should NOT be done.

You mean like we won with McCain & Romney? Oh wait...

If it’s not too late already, we’re getting too close for comfort. We need to get our country BACK.

I realize you think a lot of your governor, des. I think a lot of mine, too. That doesn’t mean I think he’s right for Washington DC. And Governor Perry is considerably more conservative than Governor Martinez.

Looks like I’ll be voting Libertarian...again.

Cuccinelli's loss was due to a combination of factors including lack or meaningful support from the GOPe, including Christie staying away. But the biggest was the Libertarian, likely a Rat plant who was PAC supported by a Democratic bundler, and who received nearly 7 percent of the vote. Cuccinelli lost by less than 3 percent.

These days she’s in a fight with the teacher’s unions about her administration’s stand to mandate teacher evaluations. The Democratic legislature has refused to even schedule a confirmation vote of her appointed Education Secretary three years in a row.

As for amnesty, I’ll with Conservative District 2 Republican Steve Pearce who wants to secure the border first, give existing illegals Red Cards allowing them to legally work, drive, pay taxes, etc., require employers to verify legal status, but require them to get to the back of the line for citizenship. Most Latinos I work with are in favor of that approach (some have family who are illegals), but the La Raza types want amnesty and citizenship for illegals right now including their votes.
