Does (3 X Britain) = Texas?

--noticed that too--and I believe the figure quoted was either one or five million tons.
--struck me that even five million tons of anything spread out over Texas would be a mighty thin layer---

Yeah, they should settle on a size comparison we can all agree on, like "smaller than obama's head" or something like that.

Texas is much bigger than England,,, much. Google images for “Texas Europe size comparison”.
Its really kind of funny. And Alaska makes it ridiculous.

It’s a UK paper. They are simply adapting the scale to local experience.

"Yesterdays posting said the size was Texas..???"
Welcome to the new age of journalism. Search the web, find a story, a little quick math (with a handy calculator, of course), and ouila, I've got a brand new story!

Well it is the size of Texas, Paul. Britain can fit into Texas 3 times, with some of Texas left over. So if the debris is the size of Texas it is 100% correct that it is 3 times the size of Britain (Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales).
