Jewish dad questions homework assignment, gets investigated for being a 'neo-Nazi'

Josh Barry, of Camp Hill, Penn., wants to know why the president of the local teacher’s union thinks he’s a neo-Nazi after he complained about a classroom assignment that he believed to be biased.

“I’m Jewish and my wife is half-black, half-white,” Barry told me in a telephone interview. “I am the furthest thing from a neo-Nazi.”

Last week, his daughter’s eighth grade American History class at East Pennsboro Middle School was asked to analyze a New York Times story about the recent government shutdown.

Barry, who said he is a registered independent, read the story and then read a list of questions his daughter was required to answer and he immediately determined the assignment was “grossly slanted.”

The worksheet included questions like “To what issue do House Republican leaders insist on tying the federal budget?” and “Whom do you hold most responsible for the government shutdown?”

Barry fired off letters complaining about the assignment to his daughter’s teacher as well as the school board. But a few days later, he was shocked to discover that the head of the local teacher’s union was making calls around town – asking if he was a neo-Nazi.

The teacher responded by explaining that the lesson was not about politics -- it was about literacy.

And then the teacher dutifully reported him to the union boss (probably). Because it was about literacy.

We are almost there folks..almost there. The totalitarian state of Big Brother is just around the corner. And you thought that it couldn’t happen here.

If the complaining parent had not been Jewish, the union official would have gotten away with it. This was an attempt to start a whisper-campaign to smear the parent.

How did the teachers’ union get into this at all? Who gave them information from the school board? What business is this of the teachers’ union in any way?

The worksheet included questions like “To what issue do House Republican leaders insist on tying the federal budget?” and “Whom do you hold most responsible for the government shutdown?” <<

Too bad it did not include process questions like:
Does the House originate all spending legislation?
Can a congress obligate a future congress to any issue?
What processes are available to the congress and the president when they disagree? Please include both formal and informal processes in increasing levels of difficulty.

I would not expect a group of eighth graders to answer, but to think about how to resolve issues between groups that disagree.

Years ago, schools were to educate a student so as an informed voter, they would be able to try the above questions. I doubt some congress people know the answer and they should have known them for years BEFORE going to congress. I would put as a case in point my favorite congressmen, Congressman Hank Johnson asking an admiral in a hearing “Would the island of Guam capsize?” if more servicemen and women were put on the base on that island.

I believe the Admiral deserves a medal for not even cracking a smile when answering the man who holds the purse strings.

Since the ‘90s, more Jewish people have been investigated from allegations that they were neo-Nazis. That kind of false accusation activity appeared to start with some radical academic feminists and former military and contractor intelligence men (who were sleeping with some of the feminists) trying to entice and defame some Jewish fathers’/family rights advocates.

Some the men were also radical, bisexual homo-activists, BTW.

Sure, that's what Clayton Bigsby said.

Thanks for your informed comment re the issues involved, but it does not answer my pointed question as to why the teachers' union had any part in this matter.

Because they have a “confused” idea of what being an advocate means. If schools actually taught logical fallacies...what investigation entails...what constitutes the scientific method...I could go on with this list but you were right, I did not outline what the union has to do with this.

Since the teacher’s union rep did not have a clue on any of the aspects above, he or she was reduced to rumoring a fantasy, that only reflects their own echo chamber bias. I listen to what passes for commentary on many sites. A logical mind will destroy their beliefs easily, but a herd will force all members off a cliff.

He should sue the crap out of the head of the local “teacher’s” union for libel. Enough is enough.

A bigoted Jew accuses another Jew of being a neo-Nazi for questioning what is clearly an attempt at indoctrination.

I just might die of irony.

“Since the ‘90s, more Jewish people have been investigated from allegations that they were neo-Nazis. “

I am a Porsche addict. Old Porsches, in particular.

Anyway, I refused to back down on a Porsche forum that somehow drifted political and was accused by the resident liberals of being a “neo-Nazi evangelical Christian.”

Mind you, there is a picture of me in my avatar (Hasidic Jew, beard, the whole bit), my name on the forum is “Jewbacca” and it has my real name because we trade car parts, which is “Moshe” and a derivative of the “Cohen” surname.
