In general I agree that a tactical (short barrel, no choke) shotgun makes a fine home defense weapon. I would caution however that the spread pattern of the shot is not what you might think. Across a big room, say 20 feet or so, a 00Buck shell will put ALL nine of its shot through one big impressive hole in the wall. It won't spread at all. Even #6 bird shot won't spread out much at those close sorts of ranges. Think dinner plate, not door width. There are trade-offs. Bird shot might not bring down the bad guy with one shot, but they tend not to over-penetrate either and will probably stay in your house. 00 buck will drop a perp more reliably (very reliably) but also will exit through walls and pay a visit to your neighbor's house.
