Republican sweep

The supermajority of the Chautauqua County Legislature will be Republican as of Jan. 1, while four Democrat incumbents are on their way out.

In the new legislature, 13 of 19 legislators are Republican.

"We gained a couple of seats which is very important," said Allan Hendrickson, chairman of the Chautauqua County Republican Committee. Article Photos

Vince Horrigan and Larry Barmore celebrate their election wins.

"We'll be able to do things we weren't able to do before," Hendrickson said, referring to the economy of the county and "expansion of what we have."

"We do what we can for the people we have here," he said.

Furthermore, the outcome of the election could significantly affect the future of the Chautauqua County Home and the possibility of it being sold to a private buyer.

"In my opinion, the election was a referendum on the county home," state Assemblyman Andy Goodell said. He explained that with the privatization of the skilled nursing facility, money could be used to keep future taxes down.

"The public overwhelmingly said they wanted a smaller government, lower taxes and more jobs," Goodell said.

Nope, other end of the state. Rural county near the PA line, between Erie, PA and Buffalo.

The trend continues. Republicans continue to lose at the national level (with a few exceptions) while gaining ground at the local level.

Not that big of change. The County Executive and the County Clerk were already Republican. Nice to have the super majority in the legislature though.

Something must be up. The democrats, especially in the North County, put on a major blitz to get out the vote. Lots of cars with out of state plates with local democrat advertising on them.

None of it matters. The communist state of NY will overrule everything they attempt with new regulations.

The Republicans lose on the national level because they never challenge the Democrat voter fraud that takes place in every national election. They should become suspicious when a polling place is located in a cemetery...and 110% there vote Democrat.

Republicans lose because they campaign on a slogan of “We Suck Less.”

The ‘Rats always act as though Republicans appear in office by magic — when in fact they are sent there by voters.
