Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl tweets of work from off-site [lying mayor said he was at work]

But on both occasions, Twitter's own location services -- which a user can set to broadcast where the tweet originated -- showed they were sent from far outside the City-County Building. On one occasion, Twitter showed the tweet was sent from near the mayor's home in the middle of the day. In the second, Twitter showed the message was sent from a country club, again, during the workday.

On Friday afternoon, he tweeted "Friday staff mtg. Our success is a result of so many dedicated City employees! #7yearsofsuccesses." His tweet included a photo of his conference room, with nine staff members, including public safety director Mike Huss, chief of staff Yarone Zober and spokeswoman Marissa Doyle.

Ms. Doyle said the meeting lasted from 11:30 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m. His tweet came about 20 minutes later and indicates that he sent it while he was just a few doors down from his Fineview home.

And on Tuesday, shortly before 2 p.m., he sent a message about a budget meeting, attaching a link to a document in which he listed his "Top 10 Financial Accomplishments" on official letterhead. He also included a photo of himself sitting at his desk with members of his finance team and Mr. Zober.

"One of my last budget meetings. Proud of our work!" the tweet read.

The meeting had actually occurred around 24 hours prior -- on Monday. On Tuesday, when he sent the message, Twitter put him not in his office, but at Shannopin Country Club in Ben Avon Heights.

On multiple occasions, he claimed to be at work when he made these tweets, but according to the data encoded in the tweets, he was actually at home and at his country club.

He never said he was at work unless I’m missing something. He just said “Friday meeting” and posted pictures.....who cares if he posted it while at home? I’m missing something here.

I'm glad Ravenstahl will be out of office in a few months. Not that I expect anything good from the newly elected mayor. Ravenstahl was under federal investigation. He wrecked his marriage by cavorting with whores (when he was supposed to be working and at taxpayer expense). He is a sleazeball who got the job through family political connections, but he was not qualified for the job.

Goodbye and good riddance Luke. Too bad you aren't in jail.

From the article it sounds like this mayor (a dem) has been accused of not working as hard as he should, not being “hands on”, in the public view, etc. Stuff about federal investigations as well.

These tweets don’t seem to be a big deal to me either. But it adds to the reporter’s story that this guy is not doing what he is supposed to be doing. It would seem to me though that much of a mayor’s duty IS to be at the local golf tournament, having lunches at the country clubs with business leaders, etc.

Not that the guy isn’t a crook, but some of these things seem to be grasping at straws.

This may not be a big deal on the surface. It probably means more to those of us who live in western Pennsylvania and are familiar with the sleaze and corruption in Pittsburgh.

One of the comments said something like “this guy is such a loser, a Republican almost won”.

Rumor is that he is caught up in the same web that is sending his chief of police to club fed for 10 yrs. Laying low and running scared?

Not saying he isn't entitled to a day off or vacation or whatever, but Ravenstahl has a habit of not actually working when he should. As I said before, he was spending time with strippers and whores, not just on his own time. There was a massive snowstorm once when he was MIA. He took some heat for not mobilizing emergency services. Sorta like Nagin of New Orleans during Katrina.

One of our local tv stations has been trying to get a copy of the Mayor's schedule. Under the law, the Mayor's office is supposed to make that schedule available, but the Mayor has refused to do so. The tv station even obtained a court order compelling production of the Mayor's schedule, but the Mayor's office has defied that order. Makes you wonder what they're trying to hide.
