Not saying what he said was appropriate, since of course it was not even a little appropriate, but one thing someone could say in semi defense of Cruise is that he does indeed work in one of the most shameless, amoral, conscience-less, ruthless industries around, one that delights in robbing young people of their dignity, soul, integrity and sense of self worth and leave them a fully hallowed shell when they are done. Still does not make what he said excusable but in the name of being impartial one could point that out.
