[D-KY]Alison Lundergan Grimes Really Wants You to Know How Much She Likes Guns
National Journal ^ | 11/9/2013 | Matt Berman

Posted on 11/09/2013 6:03:22 AM PST by markomalley

The week's almost over, and political campaigns know as well as anyone that it's hard to get traction on a Friday afternoon. So the campaign of Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes has decided to shake things up a bit.

A little after 1 p.m., Grimes's campaign sent out a press blast inviting Mitch McConnell "to join her on gun range." The full text:

As an NRA member, my strong support for the Second Amendment is unquestioned. I am proud of Kentucky's long-held gun ownership, sporting and hunting traditions. It is unfortunate that Senator McConnell is desperate to mislead Kentucky voters about my strong support for the Second Amendment. In the Senate, I will protect my fellow Kentuckians' right to keep and bear arms. Whenever he's not busy pandering to Washington lobbyists, I welcome Senator McConnell to come shoot with me at the range any day.

The photo up top came along as well. The thing is, as random as this may seem, it's actually pretty important for Grimes's Senate chances for you to know that she's a big fan of guns. Because the National Rifle Association is already getting ready to spend big in the race.

This Friday, Mitch McConnell is getting the NRA's "Defender of Freedom" award. And it's planning on throwing its full financial weight into the race. "We're going to make sure that gun owners in Kentucky understand that they have a champion representing them in the United States Senate," NRA lobbyist Chris Cox told Kentucky's Lexington Herald-Leader this week. With more than $11 million on hand for 2014, the NRA's support for McConnell, Cox says, will be at full strength.

And Kentuckians believe that guns do more good for society than ill by a 65 percent to 27 percent margin, according to a Courier-Journal Bluegrass poll from earlier this year. There was some wiggle room here for reformers, though: 75 percent of respondents support background checks on gun buyers. The Grimes-McConnell race appears to be massively tight, and although there's a long way to go until Election Day, an issue like gun rights could be a difference maker.

Of course, Grimes didn't mention any of that in her press statement. But no seemingly-random political email lives in a vacuum.

Doesn’t matter. She’ll caucus with and add to the ranks of people who want every one of us disarmed and at the mercy of their police and security forces. Her individual views, even if they are genuine, will be railroaded into irrelevance by her pals on the left.

Sounds just like Harry Reid. How'd that work out for Constitutional rights?

She should be schooled in the history of how anti-2nd Amendment the Dems are as well as every other kind of collectivist group throughout history.

Exactly right. Next thing you know she’ll be casting a vote so only the elite get to keep their guns.... along with their premier health insurance of course.

Don’t believe it, Kentuckians!

That’s the same horse**** we West Virginians heard from the NRA-endorsed backstabbing gun-control-freak Joe Manchin.

If she were a dedicated shooter, she'd know she should have ear and eye protection.

Just a photo op.

Oh, yes: The Second Amendment isn't about shooting 4-legged game ... it's about shooting 2-legged vermin.

Dumb broad ...

The Second Amendment isn’t about “sporting and hunting”. Period.

Yup!

It doesn’t matter what your local ‘Rat claims to support — he or she will always vote along straight party lines with the radical ‘Rats.

She's a Dem. Her personal views are the party line, regardless of what she claims. She may own guns. She probably believes she has the right to shoot a home invader. But it is ideologically impossible for her to believe *you* have those same rights.

Liberals are hypocrites that are *always* more equal that others.

And don’t forget their “privilege” of insider trading and raising your own salary at will.

To. The. Bank.

She’ll campaign and act all pro-gun up to and until the first serious Senate vote on the next major gun control bill and she’ll jump right into line with statists readily to do her duty for the party. It’s as easy to predict as the Sun coming up in the morning or birds flying south for the winter.

She is a scorpion and we all know what scorpions do.

Alison Lundergan Grimes is a great name for making a song or limerick.

Alison Lundergan Grimes
Was running out of time
So she picked up a gun

Shot a round on the run
and went out to campaign for fun
Alison Lundergan Grimes

That's just of the top of my head.

Yet she belongs to a political party committed to taking your guns from you.
