Conventional wisdom holds that Gov. Chris Christie will veer to the right during his second term in New Jersey to impress Republican voters across the nation in the 2016 presidential primaries. So well see tax cuts tilted in favor of the rich, new restrictions on abortion rights, fresh attacks on environmental protections and so on.
Dont believe it. Christies strategy is to challenge the extremists in the Republican Party, not to cater to them. He is offering himself as the best hope to actually win a national election, as an alternative to the extremists behind the recent government shutdown... < snip >
The governors attempt to pack the Supreme Court with conservative justices has blown up in his face, creating a Washington-style stalemate. The seven-member court now has two vacancies, and just two Democrats. The only solution is for the governor to nominate one Democratic justice and one Republican.

Interstingly, this article also states "Look to Trenton, he says, if you want to see how grown-ups play politics."
In addition to being synonomous with "liberal" the phrase "grown-up" also apparently stands for the deserved reputation that the state has for legendary corruption. The Democratic Party in New Jersey is Tony Soprano. The Republican Party is more Pauly Walnuts.
And I'm sure if Obama runs into resistance to his coming Supreme Court nominations, the Star Ledger will suggest he solve it by nominating a Republican.
I remember the days when the Star Ledger had a conservative editorial policy. It has certainly evolved a great deal since then.
That’s funny. I look at Christie like he is an immature home boy, who thinks he knows how to schmooze the cool kids, who will pull the rug out from under him as soon as he gets in their way.
CC needs to run as a ‘Rat in order to win.
Huntsman tried that last time. He gathered 1% of the vote. It doesn’t pay to chastise those who you need. Christie would be much wiser to veer to the right, challenge Washington and take on the entrenched lifers in Washington. That’s the same formula that will work for an number candidates. If you run to better manage dc, you will lose. That is what Romney did. It’s a formula for another loss.
Most see Governor Krispey Kreme as a disgustingly fat Obama sycophant and GOP-e charter member.
I see him as “Patsy McCain II”, anxious to hand over the White House to the Democrats for another 8 years.
No more GOP establishment “good loosers”: Cruz-Palin, 2016?
What do we do then? We crush our enemies, drive them before us, and exult in the lamentation of their ugly women and gay boys.
Yes, this is somewhat equivocal. I will try to be more forceful in the future.
I’ll have to ask liberal Auntie, and that liberal daughter of hers, but, do the New Jersyans really enjoy being used by these antics, his using the election as a stepping ston to the presidency?
I mean, not to mention that anyone up there with any sense realizes he hasn’t got a chance. He’ll burn out, plus the media will smear him if he EVER goes for the conservative base. He did run as a democrat.
If he somehow gets the nomination, even I will stay home on election day.
Same here!
The nominee has to be a real tried and true conservative, not a johnny come lately. We have so many great conservatives why settle.
How about any of these: Cruz, Palin, Jindal, Walker, or Perry?
That fat azz Liberal is staying in NJ.
Progressive is just another way to say Neo-Feudalist...
Human buffet barge fat tub of lard liberal pie wagon!!
And how many votes does he expect this to translate into?
Obama likes Christie’s fluffy butt.
It’s a Bromance.
Because the GOP strategy of picking the candidate most acceptable to Democrats has worked out so well.
