A Saskatchewan man who has developed an affordable 3D printer has attracted worldwide attention and more than $700,000 in crowdsourced funding. Rylan Grayston, 28, from Yorkton, said curiosity fuelled his quest to create a 3D copier that sells for just $100. Other high-tech 3D printers sell for several thousand dollars or more. "I didn't have enough money for a 3D printer that I wanted, so I just started thinking about how can I do this myself?" I thought so too, although I have no idea of the technology involved. Crowdsourced money is what interests me. What I know about this subject is limited to the NYSE stock DDD that has taken off like a rocket.

Cutting the Wall Street investment bankers out of the deal sounds good to me.
It will be the jubilee when they develop 3D printers than can print 3D printers.
I backed this project a few weeks ago. I am hopeful but not convinced that they will fulfill their goals. They still have a few fairly major hurdles before hey are through, and my biggest concern as with all these 3d printers is how durable they are. How hard are they to calibrate?
I backed them and I give them a 50-50 shot at succeeding through to fulfillment.
The reason all of the 3D printing stocks are taking off is the release last Friday of a new scanner by DDD. The price point is less than a fifth of the previous costs for similar devices.
Now all we need is the Henry Ford of 3D printing to REALLY drive production costs down and reliability up.
