'Dying' Russia Is On Pace To Record Natural Population Growth in 2013

Rosstat recently released their latest batch of demographic statistics. Nothing particularly bizarre or unexpected happened, but the data show that births have held steady at their 2012 level while deaths have modestly decreased. This means that, if the trends from the January-September period are maintained for the entirety of 2013, Russia will record natural population growth of roughly 13,000, its first natural population growth since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Now in one sense natural growth of 13,000 out of a total population of 143,000,000 sounds puny and unimpressive. However, as I never tire of reminding people, it wasn’t all that long ago that Russia was naturally shrinking by hundreds of thousands of people per year. To give some extent of the rapidity of recent improvement, here’s a chart showing the natural change in population per 1,000 from 1992-2013:

Muslims in Russia are breeding like rabbits. And that’s not even counting the migrants from the Stans that used to be part of Imperial Russia/the Soviet Union.

I’ve seem mothers pushing baby strollers everywhere I look for the past 10 years. They are going on double session in many of the schools in the city because there are not enough classrooms.

a year ago, I read Pravda and they had a columnist named ‘Cowboy Bob.’ His stories about being a Texan in Russia were hilarious. Are you the same guy? If so, thanks for the laughs.

Not sure if he’s still writing for Pravda, but he was really funny. I’m still laughing about his stories where he claimed to Russians that his neighbor in Texas was Chuck Norris.

Good for Russia for turning this around. ‘Dying’ America could turn it around too, and I would bet, even faster, considering we’re starting with a larger population.

Did you know that Chuck Norris had a casino in Moscow? (That was before they were all shut down...)

The younger generations will be the salvation of both Russia and Ukraine. They are more focused better educated and more dynamic than the older class

The US should quit accepting any and all Moslems, and generate a quota of a couple million young and gorgeous Russian girls....

Oh, and maybe a few scientific and academic geniuses.
