MMMMMH. The security forces are still at work? They didn’t quit and go home to their families? They didn’t steal the food themselves and then go home?

How long will the security forces continue to do their job and act in a legal fashion?

Darn Tootin’ Avoid the lootin’ and be prepared cause FEMA doesn’t know us from Adam, and they do not have a past history of being the most competent in their efforts to help.

Amazingly about 11 or 12 years before that when the lights went out, they had a night with some of the least crime they ever had.

LOL. I remember that. IIRC, there was a little baby boom about 9 months later.

I wish I had another gun. I also need a better water supply. I am so screwed.

A likely story. Everyone with a brain knows you have a bathtub and a water heater. Not to mention the arsenal and all those delicious snacks. Prime target!

I’d wager some of those events were planned and that some well organized elements (street gangs) conducted looting—especially after observing news feeds of the ‘unrest’ in Watts where scouts would check shops and then break the windows in the front of jewelry stores and the like, then move on while the rip crew went in.

In following this event before it became news in the US.... it is striking that the Philippine people did little to open up access for the roads there.....

In Japan when the Tusami hit....they were out there clearing off roads as soon as the waters receded....they understood you cannot get help in without access.....what I have seen in the Philippines is similar to Haiti....the people waiting for someone else to do the work. From the get go access roads needed to be opened...able bodied men and woman, even after several days still continued to wander rather than lift the hand to open the roads.

Indeed bgill...Indeed!

Much like in Haiti when they were hit...the people themselves did little about their circumstances..before or after.

I recall some of the ‘World Workers who go into countries hit like this saying ...that when they got to Haiti they were amazed how the people stood around and watched them work rather than as in other countries the people pitched right in.

I think the Philipines is proving much like this....time will tell...but the people must have realized that the city rescue staff etc. were also those who had not survived thus limiting the recurers themsleves from coming to their aid.

Now you wouldn’t be caught without a can opener, would you?

Almost as embarassing as being caught without a can.
