Used to be - not any more.
I feel badly for the ones that are well-meaning, but my default position is now "stranger danger" when it comes to cops.

The local police are not our friends. Used to be - not any more. Agreed. I have several retired LEOs and other uniformed civil servants in my family, but they all hail from a bygone era when such men treated the people that they served with respect.
Today I can't think of a single situation that can be improved by involving an armed representative of The Government. "Immediately leave the area if they arrive" is my current operating rule.
