CHICAGO -- Chicago's mayor has delivered a message to comedian Jon Stewart: don't diss his city's prized pizza.

Stewart denounced Chicago deep-dish pizza on "The Daily Show" this week as "an above-ground marinara swimming pool for rats."

His feigned tirade began during a Wednesday segment about hard feelings over North America's tallest building, a title heading to New York from Chicago.

The diss didn't sit well with pie-loving Chicagoans.

It’s Sicilian, right? What’s the problem?

Chicago “pizza” isn’t. It is a casserole.

I lived in Chicago for two years. Chicago pizza sucks. It’s a bunch of poorly made bread with pizza floored frosting on top.

New Haven pizza is the greatest on earth.

Sallie’s or Pepe’s in New Haven. They both rock.

The thinner the crust, the better. Healthy, but not too thick layer of tomato sauce, topped with not too much cheese and that is a Pizza! I’ll pass on the deep dish serving of tomato soup and cheese that one must eat with a spoon.

I never understood the big deal about “Chicago-style Pizza”, to me it is as bad as the Cubs and the Sox.

I like the thin crust that has a little bubbling, and the rest as you put it, just enough sauce to be tasty and not dry and enough cheese but not too gooey. Any toppings need to be just right; not piled high and not too scattered.

Rats. It’s getting late and that made me hungry.

pie-loving Chicagoans.

Fun fact, I've never heard anyone in Chicago call a pizza a "pie". Ever. I think that's a stupid NY thing.

Both Rahm and Stewart look like Zeppo Marx…long lost cousins, maybe... both gnomish, dirty-mouthed, effeminate. Short, balding, too.

Gino’s East.

I grew up in Chicago. Even went to college in the loop.

Gino's East sucks. Every time I went there I got sick.

I've tried Chicago-style pizza at every famous Chicago pizzeria. They all suck.

Nothing compares to New York-style pizza.

In cities across America it's easy to find New York-style pizza. It's almost impossible to find Chicago-style. That tells you everything you need to know.

Good news. Chicago finally has a New Haven style pizza place. It actually is a solid effort. It isn't quite Sally's, but it's in the ballpark. Piece Pizza on North Ave.; try it if you ever make it out to Chicago again.

Don’t miss Modern in NH. Arguably as good and, so far, shorter lines

I heard that line. Thought it was funny. Didn’t hear about the rats line, which is a little over the top, but it’s comedy of sorts.

Interesting. I never got sick at Gino’s and everyone I brought to Gino’s said it was the best they’ve tasted. There are always Chicago style pizzerias available wherever I’ve lived (even here in California). But none of that matters, the bottom line is it’s a matter of personal taste. I’m glad you found what works for you. Enjoy!

Nor have I in Boston, either.
