Opponents Of Medicaid Expansion Want Funds Voided

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two anti-abortion groups and six Republican lawmakers argue in court documents that an Ohio panel exceeded its authority when it cleared the way for federal funds to be spent on an expansion of Medicaid.

The groups and state representatives are suing the state Controlling Board and Ohio's Department of Medicaid over last month's decision. They want the Ohio Supreme Court to order the panel to declare its decision as void and stop Medicaid officials from using the board's approval to move forward with covering more people under the health program.

In a court filing Friday, the plaintiffs say such a ruling is necessary to prevent serious harm to the checks and balances of government.

Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) had defended the move, saying it was within the rules.

Ohio voters were very clear on this and our petty tyrant has used “executive authority” to override the voters direct ballot response and the legislature’s budget.
