BALTIMORE (WJZ) Growing confusion. One day after the president accepts blame for the botched roll-out of the Affordable Care Act, states such as Maryland are now facing a tough decision.
Derek Valcourt explains the state insurance administration is debating whether Marylanders can renew policies that arent good enough to meet the new regulations.
This all goes back to the infamous promise the president made that if you like the plan you have, you can keep it.

Why can’t the good people of Maryland decide — each for themself?
Owe Malley, will do whatever Obama tells him to do. You can bet the farm on that.
I would bet he is on the phone to Steny, The troll Mikulski, and Cardin right now.
I’m getting out an extra large popcorn with butter!
What these Bozo’s in government do not seem to realize is that you can’t wave a magic wand and make what isn’t feasible, feasible. I mean, what does keep your old policy mean. Keep it at existing premiums, or keep it at a substantially higher premium? I don’t think that that is possible. Thigh cost of health insurance was the original problem. For Obama, it has become the solution.
It ain’t going to happen. The Affordable Health Care and Patient Protection Act, a/k/a obamacare is the law. All the politicians now are doing is stalling for time and muddying the waters and keeping the sheep pacified until the 2014 election is over.
translation.. Maryland is trying to figure out a way to make it appear that it’s the fault of the insurance companies. It will be the same once companies start to drop their employees too.
Every state has an insurance commissioner and he/she controls insurance in that state. That position is there to regulate insurance so the consumer doesn’t get ripped off by a fly by night insurance company. The rates they charge have to be approved by the commissioner.
A number of state commissioners have already said insurance companies cannot re-issue those policies that don’t comply with the new law. It will be up to the Maryland Insurance Commissioner to let it happen or not let it happen.
“That position is there to regulate insurance so the consumer doesnt get ripped off by a fly by night insurance company.”
At least with the strawman fly by night insurance company nobody is forcing people to do business with them. When the “STATE” can dictate then we all are slaves at best.
It’s harder to blackmail 50 state ins. commissioners than one Supreme Court justice.
I'm not sure if you are coming down against state insurance commissioners. Each insurance company has to give the commissioner a copy of their rates and how they arrived at that rate. If a rate is totally off the wall, the insurance company would have to adjust their rate to be reasonable. They also have the ability to contest the commissioner's decision and go to a judge to make their case so there is a check on the commissioner.
If checks and balances were not made on insurance companies, there would be no limit as to what insurance companies could charge.
John Roberts should be cancelled.
Obsolete!
Owemally can just call it a tax..
Might as well call it RobertsCare.
Has the Federal Government taken over regulating the Insurance industry? I thought that was the right of the States.
The O'Moron is under the delusion that he can be Prez in 2016. I live in MD - he's an idiot. While 60% of the residents support him as Guv - about 80% say that he would be a lousy Prez ...
And, after ALL the bravado he shovelled on Oct. 1st when the MD Exchange came on-line, I ain't heard PEEP ONE from him since. The Exchange bogged down with the verification app and as of the official numbers that came out - ONLY 1284 people were signed up ...
So, he's keeping his options open at the moment - if the public wants the policies reinstated, he'll do it, otherwise, he'll put the golden kneepads on for Obama ...
I live in Maryland but at least in a somewhat Republican Arnne Arundel County and the only smart thing O’Malley did was get the casinos into the state and now the state is in great economical shape. Had he not done that, then the state would look like Michigan...a disaster.
There is a problem with your analysis........ time
Come January 1 2014, the means for obtaining and paying for medical care will for many be gone.
They can’t go to the doctor and if they do, he can’t be paid. Chemotherapy obtained an paid for in December will not be available in January
Slightly OT, but for those who weren’t aware, O’Moron pulled a stunt similar to what Bam-Bam is doing right now with the insurance extensions.
SB 281, the recently enacted gun control law in MD., required that all handgun purchasers have a state issued license effective Oct. 1st, 2013 before they could pick up their firearm.
The background checks were clogged up with 10’s of thousands of applications in the queue with little chance of clearing before the deadline.
The State Police superintendent then waved a magic wand and declared that they would look the other way and allow folks who had already paid for a handgun prior to the 1st to pickup after their checks were completed, even without a license.
This must be the wave of the future, where the rulers can decide which laws they are going to enforce and which ones they will not.
It [obamacare] is unfolding just as its designers planned and envisioned, My FRiend. The minute Obama signed it into law there should have been massive protests in the streets Nationwide. The Republican Party did its part in sedating the sheep with, “Elect me and I will repeal obamacare.” With Obama’s blessing it, [obamacare], was taken to the Supreme Court to test its Constitutionality. That this met with Obama’s approval should have been a clue as to what the outcome would be. Finally, a Senator from the State of Texas came up with a plan to get rid of omamacare. Before his plan could succeed, he was stabbed in the back by other Republicans. The Democrats did not have to lift a finger. All the dirty work was done by members of the Political Party that some say is on our side. Well, they have a hellof way showing it.
