Thankfully the NY SAFE Act has prevented criminals from harming innocent people. Oh, wait.
On a related note, why wasn’t the off duty cop carrying? Or do they have some stupid policy that discourages it?
Perhaps he was. The military teaches one to appreciate the benefit of ambush. If you can defeat your enemy completely within thirty seconds, he may not have a chance to counter-attack. The element of surprise is a force multiplier.
In all actuality, I feel bad for the cop and pray for him and his wife.
However, it is not without difficulty:
when every other day there's a story about a surprise colonsocopy, dog shooting, fat hispanic women mistakenly shot while driving a different make/model/color/pickup truck than the homicidal black man, choke slamming a female soldier in a bar etc........and then some chief comes out and claims "the officer was just following protocol."
I'm fairly certain it is NOT the reason in this case, but I do wonder when someone will decide "enough."
