When 3D printing was first introduced, the costs were prohibitive, but the costs are continuously dropping.
Until government gets involved....even more.
Hint for the lurking Low Informtion Knuckleheads: Wonder why healthcare costs continuously explode?

I understand HP is going to be releasing a 3D printer in the comming year. Good or bad, the fact they are entering the competition speaks volumes.
Manufacturing of small items is now in trouble. Politically this means the only union jobs are going to be in government.
