“the Boeing 757, sometimes referred to as an Airbus.”
Laughing here—I did not know that.
Very funny !
.
“compeltly”? FAIL!!
I went in the breakroom a minute ago and Fox News had a banner at the bottom saying the cargo jet would be taking off from that airport at 1pm EST. I wouldn’t want to be that pilot.
It happened in Portland OR 20 + years ago. A 707 or(?) not sure, but landed at Troutdale about 20 miles to the east of PDX. they had to strip the plane, very light fuel load to get it off the much shorter runway.
I’ve landed at the wrong airport a few times prior to the GPS days. Once in a tri Pacer in TX due to radio confusion, and once in a 310, dodging T storms in OK.
According to CNBC, the flight originated in Italy carrying components destined for McConnell Air Force Base. Refueled in NY, then on to wrong destination. The story is being updated often on CNBC. The flight crew from Italy has been replaced and expected to take off soon for short flight to right place.
I can only imagine what it was like for that crew to call approach control as ask, "Where the heck are we?"
Unload it and take off, 6,000’ is plenty long for an empety 747!
They are about to attempt a takeoff. Live feed here:

Back in the seventies an FB-111 based at Plattsburgh AFB wound up landing by mistake at the civilian airport in Plattsburgh. And yes it was carrying (4 AGM-69 SRAM’s)
If they empty it and use some JATO rockets, maybe... just maybe
Is the pilot from ASIANA airlines?
The Aardvark managed the takeoff from the civilian airport. Typically the afterburners are used during takeoff, and they have no trouble getting off the ground. The KC-135’s were another matter. I was at Plattsburgh (on base) when there was an operational readiness inspection. People get real antsy when a KC-135 arrives unannounced, and more so when the passengers getting off all have “farts and darts” on the bills of their caps. You could tell when the Aardvarks were taking off, and when the tankers were taking off, just by the sound. The former sound like the air was tearing, and the tankers sounding like the ground was shaking.
