NEW YORK New Yorkers buying a health plan on the states new insurance exchange should read the fine print if theyre interested in getting care at some of the citys top hospitals.
Not all are participating in the new plans created by the Affordable Care Act. As of this week, not one of the plans for sale on New Yorks health benefit exchange would cover treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, one of the worlds largest and most respected cancer hospitals...

Those hospitals are reserved for the nomenkultura, govt employees and union people who have the good health policies. The rest of us our out in the cold.
The Soviets called their monopolistic crony capitalist system 'Communism'. We call our monopolistic crony capitalist system 'Free Market Capitalism'.
Some say po-tay-to, some say po-tah-to...
What a mess. With higher deductibles and rates, and less coverage, fewer people will seek treatment. Hospitals and doctors will have to charge more - a vicious circle.
Not sure the hospitals can continue to exist without accepting the Obamacare plan.
Many people will have to go to hospitals that do accept the plan because not all of us can afford a hospital stay that isn’t covered by insurance. Some kind of insurance.
This is because Obamcare does not intend to cover cancer. Get preggers, you are covered.
Just when you didn’t think Obamacare could get worse. Exchange plans are basically
nothing more than Medicaid, only a WHOLE lot more expensive! The reason is that
obamacare says that exchange plans must cover care at “essential community providers ... that serve predominantly low-income, medically underserved individuals.” (Sec. 1311c(1)C) That means clinics, public hospitals and hospitals largely serving the Medicaid community.
Many exchange plans exclude the top-drawer academic hospitals like Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and New York Presbyterian in New York City. This is EXTREMELY bad news but it’s bad news for consumers who had access to esteemed hospitals and doctors under their old plans and then got pushed into the exchanges.
It’s lamented by the Democrats that the hc sign up site contractor was low bid so there for they could not put there best people on Oct due to cost considerations???
You get the idea these hospitals feel the same way about the money.
Imagine that/ s
Not a fair criticism. MSK and other leading NYC hospitals have never had network deals with most HMO or PPO style plans. People who want to use those hospitals have always had to deal with out of network and usual and customary limitations — typically amounting to a reimbursement of about 20% of the bill.
