Wow! The guy who was shoplifting could have conceivably filed assault charges. The other customer is probably lucky he didn’t.

The other problem is I doubt the shoplifter learned a lesson. He will just become an even angrier thug. He and his friends will probably come back and trash the store.

Sure. Blame the victims. Are you sure FreeRepublic is your place? You are a bit new here, however your posts send up flags.

Not blaming the victim at all.

But the criminal (Shoplifter) could very well have filed assault charges.

First off, the guy who hit him was just another customer and he was not being physically threatened by the shoplifter. The punch was an inappropriate use of force. If he’d confronted the guy and he’d started to run it would have been a different story. Second he was not from the look of the video either an employee or owner of the store so he was not directly liable for any monetary loss. The shoplifter was not committing a violent crime so the use of force cannot be sanctioned by protecting another person.

As much as you might think the shoplifter deserved it, the guy throwing the punch, especially the second punch was committing assault and the guy throwing the punch was violating the law just as much as the shoplifter.
