... two deceased homosexuals ...

Cheapest shot of the week. Sally Ride never claimed to be homosexual in her lifetime. She deserves to be remembered for her achievement, not as some gay milestone. Denigrating her as a "deceased homosexual" rather than as an astronaut is as bad worse than honoring her as a lesbian, an identity she never acknowledged publicly.

Bayard Rustin was a distinguished civil rights leader who deserved the reward on the basis of his achievements. Though he started out as a radical he ended up (for better or worse) something of a neocon. He also deserves to be remembered as more than some publicity-hungry blogger's cheap shot.

As always these awards are a mixed bag. A lot of politics and pandering goes into the choices. But I can't see running down everyone on the list because you don't like a few of the honorees.

It was the awards presentation ceremony which presented Sally Ride as an inspiration to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community. You should cite them and not the blogger.

Sally Ride can be remembered as the third woman in Space and the first American in Space but the script at the White House had it otherwise.
