Americans back a newly brokered nuclear deal with Iran by a 2-to-1 margin and are very wary of the United States resorting to military action against Tehran even if the historic diplomatic effort falls through, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Tuesday.
The findings were rare good news in the polls for President Barack Obama, whose approval ratings have dropped in recent weeks because of the botched rollout of his signature healthcare reform law.
According to the Reuters/Ipsos survey, 44 percent of Americans support the interim deal reached between Iran and six world powers in Geneva last weekend, and 22 percent oppose it.
While indicating little trust among Americans toward Iranian intentions, the survey also underscored a strong desire to avoid new U.S. military entanglements after long, costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Why have been saddled with Obamacare - ie socialized, federally controlled medicine?
Many reasons, but no. 1 is that the Republicans were defeated in the elections - and the Democrats took control of D.C. And a big reason for this was the unpopularity of the Iraq war.
Republicans need to stop portraying themselves as the party of more war - or we’ll have a hard time getting back the White House.
Everybody cheered Whittaker Chambers, too.
For a while.
Unfortunately, all Obama cares about is ME, and NOW.
I wonder how much Americans approved of Munich by?
One little problem with this - Iran doesn’t back the deal.
Poll question: “Should we bomb the hell out of Iran and kick off a worldwide nuclear war ending life as we know it, or should we try diplomacy?”
Even then, they only got 44% percent, in all 591 people they could find to ask who had a clue what they were talking about. Clearly, Americans support Obama.
You mean the same deal that has already been violated?
I’m sure Americans would back a nuclear holocaust as they were being incinerated by it.
We are not talking about people of any intelligence whatsoever.
Or as us right wingers would say.
Less than half of Americans polled support the interim deal reached between Iran and six world powers in Geneva last weekend. - tom
They are must reacting to the lie Obama is telling them about the deal.
Neville Chamberlain?
Most Americans probably have no idea what it was about and I bet a large plurality didn’t even know there was a deal before the pollster called.
Wish we knew what the deal is. Certainly can’t trust the regime.
The assumption is Americans are actually read into the details... which of course they aren’t.
All they’re thinking is Iran - nukes - deal. They have no clue as to the ramifications of it. If it doesn’t affect or change their personal situation, it’s meaningless to the them.
Yes.
Exactly.
I support neither war with Iran or Obama’s “deal” with them.
