Cletus, I did not pick up any particular symbolism in the name of President Snow other than he was evil. I read the books before I saw the movies and I really did not pick up on any racial aspects of the games at all. I believe some of the characters were given greater racial diversity for the movie that was not apparent or specified in the book. This would be an obvious move to give the move a greater audience appeal. For example; Rue and Cinna were “white” in my mind’s eye when I read the book but were clearly black in the movie. - It is possible that I missed the racial identity cues in the text when I read it. — But the race of the characters makes no difference. They were good, honorable people who shared values with and helped the heroine. I did not see any racial overtones (in either direction) in the book or in the movie.

In my mind’s eye, Rue was black (the book implied it) so she didn’t surprise me in the movie. Cinna, however, I imagined as white due to his “green eyes”. But no big deal, because Lenny Kravitz played him to perfection. I can’t imagine anyone getting that part so right.
