Congress should abolish the TSA -- it's time to privatize airport screening
Fox News ^ | November 26, 2013 | Chris Edwards

Over a decade of experience has shown that the nationalization of airport screening was a mistake.

...

Private airport screening is the successful approach used by many other high-income nations. Indeed, all main airports in Canada use private screening firms, as do more than 80 percent of Europe’s main airports.

The original political fight over this was to create yet another richly endowed democrat voter block. We’d need a conservative republican House and Senate and President to do this.

Absolutely.

Aviation security should be a state responsibility at all, but the few airports that are exclusively a federal responsibility.

Also, not unionized but that changed quickly. TSA is just welfare with dignity.

Never happen. Once the power hungry federal government gets control of something it will never let go. The bigger it gets the more power it wants, think ACA.

That’s why we are in a fast downward spiral towards destruction.

To turn this around and get some push back we gotta get rid of the RINO’s. There’s a better chance of an ice cube surviving hell.

“TSA is just welfare with dignity. “

I don’t know about dignity as many of them look like shoppers on the people of Walmart site.

There are actually several related changes that need to be made to the US air travel infrastructure, of which this should be a part.

To start with, there needs to be a plan somewhat like the building of the Interstate Highway System (though much smaller), to “offset” cargo transport away from metropolitan to rural areas, with very large buffer zones in which residential development is forbidden, and commercial development is solely for airport infrastructure and cargo transport.

The new rural airports for cargo would in turn be connected to rail and roadway transport for cargo movement to and from the metro areas.

Imagine O’Hare airport in Chicago with exclusively passenger service, perhaps half the number of aircraft in and out each day, radically increasing its efficiency and safety. It would also be far more pleasant for the adjacent parts of the metro area.

This being said, security at a passenger only airport, especially if most of their luggage was transported as cargo, would be far easier, far less intrusive, and far more secure. It could be done by the airports and the airlines, with no need for the TSA at all.

Until you get rid of the Patriot Act...a privitized TSA will just be a bunch of minimum wage goofballs groping women...with overpaid non-producing executives laughing about it

Privitization of Big Government is still Big Government. Eliminating Big Government gets rid of government. Privatization is just Business Socialism

I'm afraid you are right. Few people know that the Drug Enforcement Administration was formed so that all the federal workers who enforced prohibition could get jobs once booze was legalized.

One thing I could think of which might employ them is to open commissary type stores in inner city neighborhoods and give these people a job clerking.

What, take these incompetent TSA union thugs out of their cushy federal jobs and put them on unemployment? How heartless!

Actually, it would make a swell Christmas gift for the most incompetent members of the federal workforce besides the BATFE.

with overpaid non-producing executives laughing about it.

One of the reasons they created TSA was because a significant number of the original contract screeners were illegal aliens.

Will Obama abolish the TSA—Never! They are a part of his new Brown shirt army. He needs them to control the population and strike fear in them—Like he used the National Park rangers in the same way. Anyone who pulls down a Government check is enlisted in his private stooge army—from the iRS to the CIA.
