GOP promise of immigration reform fades a year after election

Earlier this year, as House Republicans began considering changes to the nation's immigration laws after their party's defeat in the presidential election, they were given a list of do's and don'ts that updated GOP thinking on the issue.

The suggestions seemed obvious to most but signaled a new tone for the Republican Party.

"Don't use the term'anchor baby' or phrases like 'send them all back,'" said the memo from a Republican-aligned advocacy group, the Hispanic Leadership Network.

Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, would provide a path to citizenship for young people brought to the U.S. illegally as minors.

-snip-

Longtime immigration advocate Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, warned that Republicans would face another election defeat if they failed to translate their new talking points into legislative action.

"Boehner, if he kills off immigration reform, will be remembered as the speaker who killed the GOP," Sharry said.

Sure, secure the border.
Ban anyone who is an anchor baby or their illegal parents from accessing the dole.
Remove the carrot keeping people here and be done with it.

I know of one couple using their unemployment to pay for their home in Mexico. Building a retirement estate for themselves in another country through our welfare system.

I don’t see what the point is for the GOP. Legal or Illegal the majority is not going to vote Republican.

But that’s not why we shouldn’t pass amnesty. We shouldn’t pass amnesty because it’s a civilian invasion that’s happening. If we have a moral obligation to take in Hispanics displaced by their countries hard economic and political turmoil than we would also have an obligation to go to that country and fix it.

I have a better idea, send all those wetbacks and their little anchor babies back where they came from. Then lock the border down.

If Boehner signs off on amnesty, he will be known as the speaker who killed the United States of America!

Watch them try to push something through after all the primaries are over, or during a lame-duck session! The republican leadership is insidious!

That's the GOP plan, unfortunately.

For every lefttard who whines about immigration reform, I offer this proposal: a green card for every high school valedictorian (or equivalent) in return for a permanent deportation of every drug mule, gang banger (or equivalent).

Do you know what crickets sound like?

GOP promise of immigration reform fades a year after election

Thats because the GOP itself doesn't want to fade away into complete irrelevance.

It must be a bitch to know, LA Times, that Americans don't want amnesty

I thought immigration was “settled law”. Why are they fighting it?

I know several LEGAL Hispanics who are dead set against an form of amnesty. My neighbor is a third or fourth generation legal Hispanic and she and her husband want the illegal immigrants out of our country.

We have a huge surplus of low information voters. Amnesty will double or triple this. There is no way Hispanic immigrants of recent vintage will not be voting 80% Democrat for all the gimmes and welfare system goodies

Amnesty = Republican suicide
