Inside the Race to Rescue a Health Site, and Obama
The New York Times ^ | Saturday, November 30, 2013 | Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Michael D. Shear

Posted on 11/30/2013 2:06:15 PM PST by kristinn

As a small coterie of grim-faced advisers shuffled into the Oval Office on the evening of Oct. 15, President Obama’s chief domestic accomplishment was falling apart 24 miles away, at a bustling high-tech data center in suburban Virginia.

HealthCare.gov, the $630 million online insurance marketplace, was a disaster after it went live on Oct. 1, with a roster of engineering repairs that would eventually swell to more than 600 items. The private contractors who built it were pointing fingers at one another. And inside the White House, after initially saying too much traffic was to blame, Mr. Obama’s closest confidants had few good answers.

The political dangers were clear to everyone in the room: Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.; Kathleen Sebelius, the health secretary; Marilyn Tavenner, the Medicare chief; Denis McDonough, the chief of staff; Todd Park, the chief technology officer; and others. For 90 excruciating minutes, a furious and frustrated president peppered his team with questions, drilling into the arcane minutiae of web design as he struggled to understand the scope of a crisis that suddenly threatened his presidency.

“We created this problem we didn’t need to create,” Mr. Obama said, according to one adviser who, like several interviewed, insisted on anonymity to share details of the private session. “And it’s of our own doing, and it’s our most important initiative.”

Out of that tense Oval Office meeting grew a frantic effort aimed at rescuing not only the insurance portal and Mr. Obama’s credibility, but also the Democratic philosophy that an activist government can solve big, complex social problems. Today, that rescue effort is far from complete.

Your right on Pravda. These days I believe them more than US newspapers so I go to UK Newspaper websites to see what the Lefties left out in our papers. Also DrudgeReport and Breitbart give a much cleared picture than the NYTIMES, MSNBS, SeeBS NPR etc etc

The time to do this is long before the site goes live. Cows, barn door, etc.

Having read most of the story, several things are clear to me:
  1. The website will never work
  2. The "rescue" operation will fail utterly
  3. The "rescue" operation will not rescue anything, or improve anything, period
  4. The political people who are managing this from inside the administration are utter hacks who know absolutely nothing about the internet, or computers, or websites, or health care, or insurance
  5. The technical people who are actually working on it are simply doing it to suck a paycheck. I'll bet that none of them actually believe it will work; if there are any "believers" involved, they are much too stupid to be of the slightest help
  6. When the history of this debacle is written, we will look back and realize that the internet saved us from ObamaCare

Who better to oversee the nationalization of medicine?

Obama, Biden and Sebelius couldn’t run a lemonade stand.

They took it down for 11 hours or something and pleaded with the America people not to use today to keep from crashing. 40% of the system still doesn’t work (paying carriers and getting actual rates for insurance companies).

What a hoot reading about Obama saying we’re the problem, but never seeing him say the same thing with such force in public.

The NYTs and other papers and other media outlets, let Obama off the hook by acting as if he admitted to these things all along. Well..., he didn’t actually.

He made some meager comments that some folks could spin as him taking responsibility, but during the same time frame the whole Democrat party to a man was blaming the fact there was any problem at all on Tea Party members, the Republican party, Christians, homophobes, people who didn’t like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, or anyone else they could think up.

The ‘Role of Charmin’ in Chief, never took full ownership.

I know because he and his crew tried to say I was the problem.

F the whole lot of them. And F the NYTs too, for trying to act as if this guy could actually take the blame for something he seriously F’d up.

He’s an absolute failure all around. What paper has the brass ones to state that on the record?

We are the laughing joke of the Western world. Our enemies stand back and stay out of it as we destroy ourselves..., as if.

The Wonder Boy operating on a 9 year old’s level of intellect, has taken us a long way down the road to ruin. Take that on for size NYTs. Be the first to hint this is true.

Nah, too much to expect. I’m sure they think he deserves another Nobel Peace Prize, or perhaps a crown befitting his station as King of the Marxist/Muslim/and people who look like him world, no matter what they are doing to our own nation.

Too bad “you broke it, you bought it” can’t be the rule of thumb here.

He should have been doing this 6 months ago.

The level of ineptitude on this administration is shocking. I mean.... we knew he was incompetent before he was inaugurated, but he’s vastly underperforming even our (very very VERY low) expectations.

Breathless recounting of heroes working 24x7 in the tractor factory to make sure the peasants on the steppes receive enough tractors to harvest the potato crop before it rots in the fields and ruins the five year plan quotas.

...one senior White House adviser recalled, “it’s a very serious threat to the success of the legislation and a very serious threat to him. We get that.”

Note that there is no concern expressed for the country itself or its people and their insurance needs.

Only for the party's misbegotten legislation and the President's political standing.

It will never fail. It will only be "far from complete."

Just like liberalism, and socialism, and communism.

Conservatives fail all the time. Often, they fail before they implement a single policy.

Liberals never fail. They just run out of time, or money, or gullible followers. But they never fail.

I see the unfortunate, unshakeable logic of that.

Good God Almighty....the website is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many ways to prove this...one of which is that Congress has exempted itself from the plan.

Oh, yeah. It's enough to make a throne-kissing sycophant's heart glow with pride. What they're trying to do at the moment is make things look good, not do anything.

So, according to the objective view of the NY Times, all of the difficulties (the first 6 pages of this 7-page screed) are due to Republican resistance and the silliness of assuming that when 0bama said A he didn't really mean Z. When we got to page 7 we actually didn't get any technical details because it's painfully obvious that they're as far over the head of the loyal Party reporters as they are of their idiot demigod in the White House. A couple of brief glimpses of the real problem emerge: no systems integrator at all in the entire project until it failed - what a surprise. Bad code, inadequate hardware, little effort paid to integration with existing systems that are, after all, supposed to be running the program. The only thing this Siberian fuster-cluck had and has going for it is a team of breathless true believers at the NY Times who will make any excuse, tell any lie, misrepresent any point, and demonize any Republican in sight in order to defend the wearer of the glove they've chosen to kiss. Absolutely disgusting journalistic moment, if indeed it can be dignified with the term.

After working frantically for two months to fix a website that is still crashing, when will Obama admit that he’s sold the country a lemon?

Soon American dogs will have a better healthcare system than their owners. How long will Americans put up with such a thing?

These Bozos are being very effective. They should all be in prison or deported...and that is being easy on them. These traitors to Freedom hate you.
