Coburn says he has a rare type of prostate cancer and that he has given a lot of thought to whether he wants to stay in the Senate for the next three years.
Q: The safety net would be for people with pre-existing conditions ...
A: Or people who are very, very poor. And so you create a safety net. That's a function of government that it can do, but it can't be managed from Washington. You know Oklahoma could run Medicaid a whole lot better than they're running it now if we get the (federal) government out of it. I mean, we've got innovative ideas, innovative people. We could actually save a lot of money and treat a whole lot more people if the (federal) government would get out.
The assumption behind Obamacare is we know better than you do on how for you to purchase your own health care. And what I would posit to you is that nobody in Washington knows better how to care for your health care.
It's really about freedom. Do I get the freedom to make a choice for me, versus do I need to have a nanny state that will make my choices for me?

Pretty candid interview with Senator/doctor(patient) Coburn.
He understands consequences of ObamaCare.
Worthwhile read.
If he steps down he will certainly miss his appearances on Morning Joe where he talks about his “good friends” Pelosi and Obama and heaps the criticism on unreasonable Republicans.
I don’t defend POLs positions. On this one he seems to understand.
As far as Pelosi & Obama goes, there is no defence of being friends with the Devil.
Yes, I didn’t mean to criticize you or the post.
Coburn just gives me a bellyache.
I’ve watched and listened to him for years rather calmly diagnosing one problem or another in Washington, then lament that nothing can be done because of the way the Senate does or doesn’t work.
Now all of us (including Coburn) see how it bloody well works: however Obama and Reid want it to work.
Meanwhile Coburn muses about his precious future while yours and mine go up in flames.
You nailed it.
Gee I didn’t hear him supporting Ted Cruz.
Yes, I understand.
The most important decision we face is how to preserve the most freedom possible so we can live out lives and overcome the obstacles of government bureaucraps.
I feel State level resistance to this Socialist takeover is nearby. This will not be pretty.
We either stand together or the ship goes down. There is more than our own lives in the balance.
Unfortunately, anyone that spends more than five years in that cesspool called Washington suffers the inevitable decline. And he is no exception. Sometimes the old Tom will show through and he is right where he should be. But there are those other times when ‘Washington Tom’ starts talking - and you'd better hold your ears.
It really doesn't seem to matter what you send to that place - give it five years or so and they will be basically worthless.
He thinks Gov’t has the answers-it doesn’t.
