Will the (lack of) state exchanges bring Obamacare down?
The Daily Caller ^ | 12/02/2013 | Christopher Bedford

Obamacare’s penalties for not buying insurance, as well as the subsidies that make its plans affordable in the first place, may not be legal in a majority of states, according to Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt.

Pruitt is suing the federal government on those grounds.

According to the letter of the law, the government can only reward subsidies and levy penalties in states that have created Obamacare state exchanges, but conservative resistance has stopped state exchanges from being set up

“According to the letter of the law.....”

The ONLY thing that will bring it down is Democrats fearful of losing their jobs.

Out of curiosity I went to the government health website. It redirected me to the California healthcare website. After inputting a small amount of info so that the site could direct me to options to compare, and finding out my income disqualifies me for subsidized coverage (which I expected), I was provided a page with some pay options. None of the options were clear as to whether the costs were per person or for the family size I entered. Therefore, without going fully on the website, and entering in my personal information, I cannot see what my actual costs would be. Yeah, NO THANKS.

I can only pray that my employee health plan isn't cancelled.

The Affordable Care Act can not possibly endure in a constitutional republic that respects the rule of law.

Which is to say that we are going to have to fight like hell to get rid of it.

Referencing the title question, do you think John Roberts did what he did so that Obamacare would go into effect and collapse on its own bringing down the anti-Constitutional America-busters with it??

It is a very plausible theory.

if you don't like Obamacare, work to win back the Senate in 2014.

It has become obvious that most 'pubs in the US Senate don't want to get rid of it. Their paymasters in the insurance industry helped set this monster up so they'd get plenty of skim off premiums and subsidies. If we could get rid of the backstabbing RINOs a coalition could happen to drop the mandate.

"The Affordable Care Act can not possibly endure in a constitutional republic that respects the rule of law."

The Social Security system, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. can not possibly endure in a constitutional republic that respects the rule of law.

Oh wait. Those unconstitutional programs have been around for dozens of years.

I guess we haven't lived in a constitutional republic for quite some time, and most people don't seem to care. Sure, some people have to make an oath to protect the constitution, but evidently that is just a formality now.

I think we're all being played for suckers. At least the Europeans are honest about the level of socialism they accept. We bluster on about how we are 'exceptional' and 'capitalistic', and in favor of 'free markets' and 'private initiative'. We may be a little less socialistic than Europe, but our founding documents would suggest that we are vastly different.

We are living a lie.

Hell no. Because Roberts could have easily struck it down and told Congress to start over. Instead of making the American people suffer knowing that the vast majority of people have no stomach to fight this crap.

Obama doesn’t care and his plan is Rat Poison. Pass it on. That should be the mantra of the Republicans.

There was a post on FR two or three weeks ago concerning Chief Justice Roberts decision which explained why he was against Zerocare.

It was so highly diverse in legal terms and references from one Constitutional law to another that I think Freepers who read it just gave up trying to explain it to others.

Perhaps you can find it. Perhaps some constitutional expert on FR can explain it.

Be careful what you wish for. Possible 2014 Scenario:

2014 March, April — Federal Judge concludes that words in the law (prohibiting fines and subsidies in States without a State Exchange) mean what they say, and declares the IRS regulations void. Obama DOJ appeals.

2014 August — Appeals court overwhelmingly concurs.
Liberals go nuts. Democrat Senators breathe a sigh of relief that they are out from under Obamacare. Harry Reid picks one of the 48 bills to repeal Obamacare, brings it to the floor ... all Republicans vote for it, no Democrats vote — it is repealed on a party line vote. The Health Insurance industry goes into chaos — Insurance company stock goes into free fall — the DOW drops 1000 points in a day.

Going into the election, while the Republicans are trying to come up with a replacement, the Democrats go on the campaign trail and say that the Republicans stole Obamacare, and the voters should replace them with Democrats in both the House and Senate.

2014 November — Democrats win both the House and Senate

2015 January — Democrats file legislation for single payer healthcare. Harry Reid declares the legislation “must pass”, invokes the nuclear option, and allows no fillabusters on the legislation.

2015 March — Obama signs single payer.

AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH. Please tell me where I am wrong.
