LONGWOOD, Fla. —

A Longwood woman was out walking her dogs when she was attacked by a bear Monday night, according to the Seminole County Fire Department.

The first black bear attack ever in Florida. I strongly believe it is the dogs the bears don't like.

More than likely someone has been feeding the bear. Bear attacks are rare, considering the growing number found in people’s yards and trees around here. bet some moron been feeding the bear, and the bear lost its natural fear of humans

This area is literally being overrun by bears the past few years.

I had a big bear in my yard a few years ago. My neighbor said the bear killed two dogs owned by a lady at a nearby farm. It was a shy bear and tended to ignore any of the people it encountered in our neighborhood but it obviously did not like the dogs.

I live in this area and there are bears everywhere! My next door neighbor saw one in my backyard a couple of weeks ago and there have been sightings almost daily. I have an Akita which are known as bear hunters so she might get a chance to earn her keep if a bear gets to close LOL!!

They are always here and they do hibernate from what I have heard. I see them beginning in August and up to January and then I don’t see them again. There is some confustion as to whether they hibernate in Florida since it is not that cold here like up north but the bears are all over the place down here.
