SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- The University of Notre Dame is suing the Obama administration over a federal mandate that its health insurance plans for students and employees cover birth control.

The university filed its lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in South Bend. It claims the mandate violates Notre Dame's freedom to practice religion without government interference.

The Roman Catholic university says the birth control mandate violates the church's teaching prohibiting contraception.

I have no sympathy for Notre Dame. They’ve snuggled up to this administration and the left time and time again. Lay down with dogs, wake up with fleas.

This is surprising! After all, they gave CZAR Gosnell an Honorary Degree!

The only plausible reason that they are suing is that Obamacare somehow negatively affected the football program. Nothing else matters in South Bend.

How did birth control ever become a health care item anyway?

Is the same Notre Dame that had Fr. Norman Weslin dragged off campus by security guards for protesting an Obama visit?

Obama was unable to protect them against Bama for the national football championship.

Notre Dame does not pass the hypocrite smell test.

No sympathy. They invited pro-choice obama to speak, they gave him an honorary doctorate and they had 88, including priests, arrested for protesting.

They cannot be serious. I thought Obama and the big wigs running ND were tight. Friends don;t treat friends like this. ND has ignored Catholic dogma in the past when it has been deemed uncomfortable. Why stand up for it now?

My ruling would be to dismiss the suit because Notre Dame comes to the court with dirty hands. They invited the vampire into the home, now they must live with it.

The same way that global warming became a national security threat.

It began when states started requiring health insurance plans to cover Prescription Drugs. Women's groups were claiming discrimination because medications like Viagra was covered, but contraceptives were not.

There is a stark difference between these two medications. Viagra is used as a treatment for something in the body that SHOULD work, but doesn't.
Contraceptives are not used to treat a medical condition; they're used to create the conditions whereby the body isn't allowed to work as it should.

Thanks SuziQ,

My thoughts exactly! What medical condition is contraceptives treating? Unwanted children is NOT a medical condition.
