Lucas Hoelscher, a 14-year-old Springfield resident, suffers from spinal muscular atrophy type I, and the disease has left him with zero movement. When he was 10 months old, doctors told him he wouldn't live past age one. Lucas, part of triplet brothers Bailey (top) and Cameron (lower left), enjoys receiving mail and correspondence from near and far.

This seems to be legitimate — but just be aware — that this general kind of story has been posted before and has turned out (more times than not) to be a hoax and has simply resulted in a big headache for someone receiving all this from hundreds of thousands of other people.
I would double check and triple check that story and attempt to go to the original source and original people directly involved in it and get absolute confirmation - first.
True, we need some new talent in the media. Talent of any measure would be an improvement.

There have been some very elaborate hoaxes on the Internet. It’s going to take something more than Facebook ... :-) ...

No kidding. I was going to ask if he had any questions for the dr. when he heard his diagnosis.
Yeah, I saw that was a standard news source, but it’s not the first time a newspaper or news agency has been “taken in”.
And he replied: "Thats OK because I live in the present."
