The two options on Iran
The Washington Post ^ | December 4, 2013 | George Will

Critics of the agreement with Iran concerning its nuclear program are right about most things but wrong about the most important things. They understand the agreement’s manifest and manifold defects and its probable futility. Crucial components of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure remain. U.S. concessions intended to cultivate the Iranian regime’s “moderates” are another version of the fatal conceit that U.S. policy can manipulate other societies. As is the hope that easing economic sanctions would create an Iranian constituency demanding nuclear retreat in exchange for yet more economic relief. Critics are, however, wrong in thinking that any agreement could control Iran’s nuclear aspirations. And what critics consider the agreement’s three worst consequences are actually benefits.

The six-month agreement, with ongoing negotiations, makes it impossible for the United States to attack its negotiating partner. Hence the agreement constrains Israel, which lacks the military capacity to be certain of a success commensurate with the risks of attacking Iran. Therefore there is no alternative to a policy of containment of a nuclear Iran.

War or containment. If Iran is really determined to have a bomb, these are probably the only choices available after we removed Saddam Hussein and Iraq from being an effective counterweight to Iran.

And after Iraq, I don't think the American public wants another Middle East war.

Utterly irrelevant as we seem near-certain to have one.

War, initiated by Iran, is the only possible outcome of a nuclear weaponized Mullah. If we are so willing to disbelieve every utterance from this suicidal regime why bother with any sanctions or diplomacy? They seek nuclear weapons to use them, not stockpile them.

Neither. I think he wants Iran to not only get the bomb but to use it. Remember the line “never let a good crisis go to waste”? In that situation how much power do you think he thinks he can grab? Maybe martial law? Suspend elections? Suspend the Constitution?

How far would he go? How far does he want to go?

We had a fully military compliment in both Iraq and Afghanistan where if we were so inclined to we could have destroyed radical Islam over the course of a three day weekend.

What is it with Democrats and birth control? Whenever we are ready to get to the good part, they pull out.

Nobody wants war...right now.

But if the appeasers get their way for too long, people will start to see that it must happen.
