The A Christmas Story House and Museum is not the only way fans can celebrate the film's legacy in Cleveland. Read on for a guide to all things "A Christmas Story"– just don't shoot your eye out.
A Christmas Story House and Museum: Open seven days a week, year-round, at 3159 West 11th St. in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood. Call 216-298-4919 or email info@achristmasstoryhouse.com. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Tours of the house run every 30 minutes. I went to a school that looks identical. In Independence, Ohio, just South of Cleveland. First time I saw the movie, I was sure that it was my old school! Pretty standard school plan back then I guess.
Same here, only it was in Shaker Heights.
The Chinese Restaurant is actually in Toronto, where it is now an Italian Restaurant.
I haven’t read the stories but did hear that is where they first ran.
Also heard that the director of this family classic was the guy behind “Porky’s”.

Now closed. It was always decorated with Christmas stuff, and the movie showed non-stop in a side room. Was the scene filmed there? I don’t know. Just assumed so.
Ah! You’re right! Just found this;
“The scene for Chinese Turkey at Bo’ Ling Chop Sury Palace was filmed in Toronto, Canada. It is still a restaurant but now serves French Food.”
So the one in Cleveland was part of the “official Christmas Story Tour,” which include the house in Tremont. Kind of a scam, eh? They had very good food though.
I am a fan. My older brother used to listen to Jean Shephard’s radio show .
Oh no! It was the classic mother AR-15 gun block....”You’ll shoot your eye out”!! That deadly phrase uttered many times before by hundreds of mothers was not surmountable by any means known to kid-dom. But such was my mania, my desire for an AR-15 carbine that I immediately began to rebuild the dike...
I’m a big Jean Shepherd fan, before my senior year in high school I read “In God We Trust~All Others Pay Cash” and picked up on his style of narrative writing and proceeded to ‘Ace’ Honors Creative Writing.
He was a great radio story teller too.
In the movie Jean Shepherd is the man in the Santa line who says “The line ends here! It begins there!”.

His wife, Susan Clark (of "Webster" fame), played "Cherry Forever" in Porky's.
We were there last week! Our tour of the house was delayed because of a film crew doing something for the anniversary.
The guide was great & told some interesting stories about the making of the movie. Be sure to “pin” your location on the museum map, if there’s room.
Some construction/improvements at the site didn’t mar our experience at all.
You HAVE to go to the gift shop. Hubby could not believe I spent $400 on stuff, but a 50” Major Award now sits in my bay window and has already upset some rather starchy neighbors. Totally worth the $250 price tag.
PS...if you visit, check out the oven in the kitchen - there is even a fake turkey in the oven.
I do not believe Susan, (Cherry Forever), Clark was ever married to the director of ‘Porkys’, (one HECK of a funny film huh?!!). First marriage was to some guy I never heard of and the second one was to Detroit Lions all-time great lineman, actor, (the bad guy sheriff in ‘Porkys’ among many other bit parts thru the years), Alex Karras, that she was married to
You’re right. I guess I got confused because Bob Clark also directed Porky’s and Susan was in it, so I figured since they both had the same last name, silly me.
I don’t believe I ever laughed harder at/with a flick than I did the first time I saw ‘Porkys’! I still watch it when it comes on!
