Schumer: House vote to extend ban on plastic guns not good enough

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. House has approved a bill that would extend a ban on the manufacture of plastic guns that cannot be detected by security-screening devices.

The Senate is likely to approve a 10-year extension of the ban, which expires Monday, when it returns to Washington next week, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.

It's the first piece of firearms legislation both houses have agreed on following the mass shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut last December, but at least one lawmaker said the bill didn't go far enough.

In a statement before the House voted, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said, "The House bill is better than nothing, but it's not good enough."

Schumer said the legislation should have included weapons made with 3-D printers.

He said he plans to introduce a bill to deal with new technologies such as 3-D printing that are capable of reproducing metal weapons in plastic, the Post said. While such firearms could not be detected by security devices such as those found at airports, they would be capable of firing real shells.

Just because a gun is plastic doesn’t mean it wouldn’t show up in an airport scanning machine. The ammunition certainly would, wouldn’t it?

He is a dangerous man. He likely knows what he wants to get to, and is willing take as much as he can when he can. He knows the MSM supports him, so he can get away with nearly any lie.

It's ridiculous to think that someone with a 3d printed gun is a danger. First of all a printed gun is a catastrophic failure waiting to happen. No one with bad intentions is going to take a 3d plastic gun as their weapon of choice.

Besides, where you going to get one? Print it on your $1200 consumer grade printer? Nope. Not unless you expect to die when you pull the trigger. Order it from a service bureau and pay more for it than buying a real gun? I don't think so. Besides a service bureau won't print it for you.

This inane concern over plastic guns is over the top and completely unwarranted. I mean really, if I wanted to print something to really make them worry I'd just print myself a canon...forget the small stuff! ;o)

The social contract is a two-party contract, Chuck. If you keep changing it without getting the proper initials...well, that’s your prerogative.

When to invoke the 4th inalienable human right listed in the Preamble of the Declaration is ours.
