The White House has spoken to your question this past Jan.
Take all the following info with many grains of salt.

White House responds to secession petition, says Texas doesn't have right to leave the US

Same here. Been cooped in since Thursday evening. I would try to leave, but can’t open truck doors because of the ice. Wife’s car is in the garage, but truck is blocking it.

I already consider myself a Texan first, an American second. America has become a degenerate, faggoty cesspool of a country, with a government devolving into a corrupt, one-party, banana-republic of sleaze and socialism.

Secession looks increasingly like the only potential route left for survival.

The US Government can’t (or won’t) win a war against Afghan Tribesmen.

I wonder how they would do against other Americans?

Texas will be burnt to ashes if it dared to secede from the de-facto irreversible merger with the United States. The land has too many federal anchors to simply be let to float away.

All of that would be fine, if the newcomers would leave their failed liberal political views behind, which they obviously won't do.

Ya had people like Perry and others constantly begging people to go to Tx. As if millions more people, bringing jammed school, roads, hospitals, more crime etc., makes a state better....

To be honest, I'm in CA and I hope the trend of liberals fleeing the state continues....

Hubby got his truck open and he’s taking me out to lunch somewhere close by in a minute. I’m nominating him for sainthood for getting me out of this house for a little while.

LOL, don’t hold back, tell us how you REALLY feel. FWIW, I agree with everything you said.

The headline says "There is no proof we can't do it."

There wasn't any law specifically saying the colonies couldn't secede. There is a specific law saying that states can't do it. That's the proof Texas can't do it.

Texas may, however, break the law, but there's proof Texas can't legally secede.

BTW, upon an attempted secession, I'll be somewhere along the Balcones Escarpment yelling "Come and Take it!"

Record Numbers Are Renouncing U.S. Citizenship

The are record numbers from California that are just giving up, as well as other places in the US.. Here is an article that echos the sentiment..

when the time comes, we won’t be asking for permission.

My belief is that if an attempt resulted in a re-set of the 9th and 10th amendments, secession wouldn't be necessary.

My second thought is that defacto secession will occur the day that Austin or some other state capital refuses to enforce or allow to be enforced some dictate from DC. That will force a reset in the 9th and 10th amendments.

But you have to be willing to go all the way when that day comes. Its like when you pull a gun. You never pull it unless you are ready to go to its ultimate consequence.

“I predict the possibility of Texas seceding from the Union in the next 50 years as somewhere south of “slim” and “none”.”

Even if in 50-yrs time the democRATS will have acquiesced to Mexico and the Texas southern border would have been claimed and taken over by mexico and the rest of the state would have become a quasi-mexican protectorate with US voting rights?

Not a far place to go from where we are now. . .

As gunner said, when the time comes, we won’t be asking for permission.

Because that worked out so well last time?

Why is it always more important to be a jerk about it than to achieve peaceful separation by mutual consent, which would at least be a rational goal?

Secession would at least mean fewer opportunities for getting involved in foreign wars. Not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.

I am in Flower Mound, just north of the DFW airport.

Had a flight to Vancouver leaving Saturday morning. . .cancelled, American rolled the reservation to Sunday morning. . .cancelled that flight late last night and cancelled the last flight to Vancouver on Sunday as well. Had to cancel my trip to Vancouver since I can’t get there for the Monday morning meeting.

Anyway, iced in. Can’t even walk to the curb to get my newspaper. . .sheet of hard ice over a gentle slope, and when I stepped out this morning and took one step. . .my feet started to slide and I couldn’t stop. Was doing a “surfing” thing. I was barely able to grasp the landscaping brickwork and keep myself semi-upright and pull myself back to the front door. If I wasn’t able to grab that handhold, I would have surfed all the way to the curb. . .in my robe. Not a pretty sight.

At least, knock wood, we have power. Some don’t.

Stay warm, all. I am.
