Funny, your comment. We had renters down the block and the boy wanted a goat for 4H. I didn’t have the heart to tell him no and said he could if the city said okay. A couple weeks later we heard goats in the back yard. I called the city and was told that we have no ordinances against any animal whatsoever, as long as we can take care of it. Pig? Yes. A cow? Yes. So, there are communities. Our town is 12,000.

I was friends with a gal who lived in Williamsburg brooklyn (back in the day, before the hipsters went there) - in a very Italian section.

She told me that a lot of people bought lambs and kept them for a while to fatten them up and then slaughtered them for Easter dinner.

I don’t know if that still happens, but maybe.

There also were always some Roosters on the Lower East Side, because you’d hear them crow if you’d had a particularly long night!
