Disgraced ex-City Councilor Charles Chuck Turner sprung from prison in July after doing time for taking a $1,000 bribe from a federal informant was back in City Hall yesterday as a spectator, but claimed his old office could be his again if he wants it.
I think I could be re-elected, Turner, 72, told the Herald, after returning to the council chamber to watch a hearing about homelessness and poverty.
But being re-elected isnt the issue, particularly at my age, he added.
Turner, who served 28 months in the Hazelton federal penitentiary in West Virginia, is not barred by state law from running for office again.
A city councilor from 1999 until he was expelled by an 11-1 vote of his colleagues in 2010, Turner said he is intent on working on issues of economic justice and changing the system from the outside.
