I wonder how many people know that Colin Powell was vehemently opposed to U.S. involvement in Operation Desert Storm (i.e., Gulf War I)? It wasn’t until after George HW Bush told Powell it was not his decision to make, and that either he gets on board or hits the road that Powell — who was an affirmative action general officer — decided to “go with the flow.”
I find it absolutely hilarious that Powell is trotted out as the hero of GW I, when he did NOTHING to prosecute that war. General Schwartzkopf deserves all the credit for that victory.

General Schwartzkopf deserves all the credit for that victory.Well said, Powell went along with the program quietly for his career and General Schwartzkopf got the job done.
I knew the score then, our son was a grunt Sgt. in operation Desert Storm and the boots on the ground knew the score.

Thanks, Smooth.
That right there should be enough for anyone to know Powell was a suck up. Up until 0bama came along Murtha was the most corrupt turkey in D.C.

This was evident by his speech years ago at the RNC convention. He had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to influence the Black community in a positive, self-reliant way and he pandered to them with his dependency encouragement.

I think MANY senior military officers are socialists. They have been bred and cultivated in the womb of big government. Many are gun grabbers and collectivists who have been taken care of their entire adult lives.

I remember seeing him on a TV program right after D-Storm and they asked him a political question and he told a story about how as a young 2nd Lt. He came rolling onto base in a VW bug and a LBJ sticker attached and some crusty old SGT read him the riot act and from that point on he decided never to talk about his politics. He just let people assume he was a Pubbie. I really never saw a fire in his belly for much of anything. He got a bigger pass than most b/c of his skin tone and non-jive speaking self like someone else we know.

“pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps success story?” I think it was pull yourself up by the bootstraps with affirmative action. I never have liked him.

Turns out that was one of the only things that he was probably right about. He said back in 1990 that a military occupation of Iraq would be a disaster.
Maybe Colin Powell (Secretary of State) should have listened to Colin Powell (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) in 2003.
