I thought ECT was beneficial to patients with certain illnesses.

My mother in law received electro shock therapy probably in the late 50’s or early 60’s at a very well respected sanitorium. It helped her get beyond a traumatic event that had her completely dissociated from reality.

Years later, the family would talk about some event that had occurred, and she would have no memory of it….. not all past memories, but random ones were missing. At least the horrible one was gone.
