Daily Mail: Mandela Memorial 'a Disgrace,' Turnout 'Embarrassingly Poor'
Big Journalism ^ | 12/11/2013 | FRANCES MARTEL

Though with kind words for Nelson Mandela and for the speeches given at his tribute, the Daily Mail's David Jones reports from the scene that the event was "a shambles" and embarrassing for the late leader.

In a scathing column for the Mail, Jones laments the empty stadium, the chronic booing of the event's host, and the fact that the ceremony -- four hours long -- began 57 minutes late. "It’s my view that yesterday’s memorial ceremony for Nelson Mandela not only failed to reflect the towering achievements of the man," he writes, "at times, it was a shambolic disgrace to his name."

Jones notes the stadium, home to the last World Cup, was only two-thirds full. Despite warnings of potentially discordant crowds, "we gazed down upon rows of empty seats" and an "embarrassingly poor" turnout. What's more, he adds, the crowd that was there required disciplining as it booed the image of current South African President Jacob Zuma, the host of the event, whenever he appeared on the jumbotron. The crowd also cheered Mandela's second wife, Winnie, more than his third, Jones recounts.

The crowd played a winners-and-losers game with the guests that made the event "almost like being in a Roman amphitheatre" and "frankly distasteful," writes Jones.

Hahahah unity with muslims. Exactly why Gandhi is rightly despised in India. Typical liberal colonialist bull sht.

I find it funny that the French left Algeria because they knew staying there would mean a muslim France, but somehow that was good for India... yeah, right.

Not sure if the word assassination describes it.

Now Obama trying to play like he is the Mandela in Africa is clearly an imposture using the grave of the dead as a personal podium.

Gandhi is not despised in India. Far from it. It’s deranged to blame Gandhi for the savagery and intransigence of muslimes. He tried his best to reconcile India’s widely disparate religious sects and he failed — ultimately giving his life in the cause.

There were comments that Mandela’s funeral would be comparable to that of Winston Churchill. Obviously there was no comparison as Churchill was honored with pomp and dignity while Mandela’s funeral appeared to have been choreographed by the Marx Brothers.

and all that history is totally ignored by the media and such these days. Even National Review went over the top and treated the man as if he were like Jesus.

Gandhi was a shill for western fabian accademia. It was replacing a colony with another authority, not anything close to US independence which removed completely jurisdictions of the empire.

Gandhi was a demoralizer burdening victims of islam. Hindus never surrendered enough. And no, i know plenty of Indians who do not like him. It is not “deranged”.

Given Obama’s rogue translator, it wasn’t a complete loss.
