Tallahassee’s political establishment has repeatedly blocked legislative votes on medical marijuana and will ask the Florida Supreme Court Thursday to follow suit and keep the issue away from state voters in 2014.

Led by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, opponents have raised a host of objections to the proposed state constitutional amendment, which they say could lead to de facto “unfettered” marijuana legalization under the guise of compassionate medicine.

The High Court in Florida is being asked by the states attorney's office to prevent the citizens from being able to express their will regarding how they should be governed.

We may have different views on whether the subject matter is a good idea but the will of the people should be respected and people should have a voice.

which they say could lead to de facto “unfettered” marijuana legalization under the guise of compassionate medicine.

Maybe this should then be given to the ultimate arbiters of what should be legal and illegal in a state. No, wait, they might vote the "wrong" way so the serfs must not be allowed to vote.

My feelings are that marijuana makes you stupid and is a moral weakness. However stoners aren't the ones tapping phones, flying surveillance, conducting no-knock raids at 3 AM, stealing property under cover of law and shooting people dead in the street also under cover of law. The war on drugs has become far greater threat to both freedom and security than the drugs themselves ever were.

“My feelings are that marijuana makes you stupid and is a moral weakness.”

It relieves pain and nausea and was recommended to my wife by her transplant surgeon. It hasn’t made her stupid or compromised her morals.
